European Greenfinch
Chloris chloris

Feathers of yellow + green. Inhabits wooded habitats, including parks, gardens, and farmland. Forms flocks in autumn + winter. Although sociable, they may squabble at the feeder. Chattering song w/ buzzy “dzweeee” calls.

Since I "fixed" my 32X last night, I've been playing Kolibri, a shmup in which you play as a hummingbird. I looked up the manual, and it's so cute. The last few pages are just instructions to make a hummingbird feeder and then some hummingbird facts.

I also saw the new how to train your dragon remake at a drive in. I dunno, just felt like a drabber and less charming version of the original.

It is not possible for Russia to get drabber.

Both would be good, and also 20th century greeks tramp captains, Irish hooligans, preconquest Fijians, modern drag queens... I'd just like to see Not the Same Again But This Time Drabber.

We should all live to be almost 96, but this is still a huge loss. We've lost too many giants of the medium these last few years at a time in history where everything already seems drabber.
RIP to the absolute legend Jules Feiffer: political cartoonist, social satirist, comics historian, illustrated the Phantom Tollbooth, wrote screenplays for Robert Altman and Alain Resnais—and that’s the short version

which blend in with the swathe of new stuff along the foreshore.

A ton of cool murals on the drabber old buildings visually links them with the new face of the city, while some of the heritage façades are getting a touch-up.

My Bird Pic of the Day is this Common Eider I saw on my recent Cape Cod trip ….I was super happy when this one swam into a pretty good spot for me to shoot it, the rest of the ones I saw on this trip were in drabber plumages… 🪶

Also, like the nice drabber colors used here. Sort of matching to her just awakening in the morning and still in the hidden shadows before she even tries to bring in the light. Anywho, keep up the splendid art you got here. *nods*

The plumage of breeding birds in the spring makes them look somewhat like a chickadee crossed with a black-and-white warbler. (The breeding females are a more difficult to discern with their drabber colors and faded markings.)

And as for the two departed friends: I've also been lucky to have had people who loved me. The world is drabber and poorer -- and not just to me! -- without them and their imaginations and creativity and kindness.

Red Knot (Calidris canutus), The Ayres NNR, Isle of Man, 13/09/2006 ebird.org/checklist/S4... Red Knots are only red when in breeding plumage. As they migrate south from their high arctic breeding grounds to tidal mudflats for the winter, they moult into their grey drabber winter plumage #ukbirding

I decided on a drabber green cloak because:

I want to balance the warm and cool tones. Next is that green isn’t an unfamiliar color to the White Dwarf. And finally, a cloak for someone like the White Dwarf is a means to move beyond ken.

That's colorful paper money! Ours in the US is drabber than most, but I don't think I've seen any country's currency that colorful.

I often say the world seems drabber than it did when I was much younger. This may be one of the factors!

(Thus, several of the paler/drabber colors were altered or just altogether dropped, new more vibrant shades happened after testing with kids went over well.)

(Personally I can barely tell old light gray and light bluish gray apart without very direct side-by-side so not really bothering there.)
