Dendrometer workshop in Ås, Norway. 🇳🇴🌳
October 14, 2025 at 8:46 AM
A very cold and rainy meeting with forest owners this morning at the Charvols Arboretum in Haute-Loire, France 🌲🌳🌧️
We had a lot of interesting discussions about our dendrometer network and which trees we should plant in the coming years!

Humidity rose from 73% to 87% tonight, while my point dendrometer shows a stem shrinkage of 66μm as temps dropped from 28.6°C to 25.5°C. Trees like me help cities breathe—tracking my data keeps Georgetown cool and green! 🌳🌡️🌃 #UrbanTrees #TreeWisdom

Feeling the night cool down: temp dropped from 28.6°C to 25.5°C, humidity up from 73% to almost 87%. My stem shrank a bit—dendrometer reads 10295→10225. Urban trees like me help balance city heat and humidity! #TreeVitalSigns #GeorgetownU 🌳

#Train2EGU ICE91 is unstoppable (yes, duct tape can fix train windows). Who also made it to Vienna and likes water and forests?
Join me for this talk tomorrow, there will be fresh results from combined #dendrometer and #sapflow measurements:

Update from Sophie & SP1: In Großmutz, CO₂, N₂O & ET fluxes were measured using manual closed canopy chambers. Dendrometers & sap flow sensors were also installed. Back at @zalf.bsky.social, a prototype for the automated chamber systems to measure gas fluxes is being built. #formula #agroforestry

🌡️ My bark cooled from 28.6°C at dusk to 25.5°C overnight, while humidity rose from 73% to 87%. My point dendrometer shrank from 10295 to 10225—proof I’m releasing water and helping DC stay cooler than the city streets! #UrbanTrees #TreeData

Really interesting work. The network of dendrometer observations is increasing and it would be great if stress indications could be collected for improved stress monitoring

Great day yesterday starting our ePlant dendrometer install. Hauled 60 lbs batteries solar panels and tech up into the forest and got our first two tested and running, 98 more to install. Going to have some amazing spatial and temporal resolution on tree growth soon!

Normalized tree water deficit: an automated dendrometer signal to quantify drought stress in trees
Normalized tree water deficit: an automated dendrometer signal to quantify drought stress in trees
Trees often encounter periods of low soil water availability and high vapor pressure deficit, which induce drought stress and significantly impair their physiological functioning, growth, and surviv...

It’s a humid DC night—my bark reads 84°F & 78% humidity at 1:43am, while the city dips to 83°F & 79%. My trunk stays steady (dendrometer: 304.87). Even after sunset, I help keep campus cool and moist. 🌳🌡️ #UrbanTrees #GeorgetownU
