Psychopsis, the butterfly orchid. It's one of my favorites, not just because it looks so beautifully unique, but because it is a sequential bloomer, and will reflower on the same spike for years, with the right care.

Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos' has three very long and thin petals on the top, which look like a stylized crown, to me. Then fringed, long sepals along the lower sides, and one large, fringed lip. The whole flower then has striking yellow and dark orange striping and dappling. This picture was taken near a South facing window.

A hollow shell of secrets kept, cradled long in slow decay.

A small arched doorway opens into a grassy courtyard beyond. The wall slopes downward in a broken line of masonry, leading the viewer’s eye toward the second, larger ruin behind it: a tall gabled structure with a lofty Gothic window, its delicate stone tracery still clinging to the empty frame. The ruins sit in a clearing ringed by tall, leafy trees, their shadows dappling the grass, creating a peaceful yet evocative scene of abandonment and time’s passage. Historically, Minster Lovell Hall was built around 1440 for William Lovell, a nobleman of significant standing in the late medieval period. The Lovell family remained influential for generations, though their fortunes declined after the fall of Francis Lovell, an ally of King Richard III. The estate later passed to other aristocratic owners, including the Coke family. In 1747, the then–Earl of Leicester decided to leave Minster Lovell and relocate permanently to his Norfolk estate, effectively abandoning the Oxfordshire manor. With no resident family and no further upkeep, the hall rapidly deteriorated, falling into ruin over the decades that followed. Today, the atmospheric remains—preserved by English Heritage—stand as a poignant example of medieval domestic architecture and the shifting fortunes of England’s landed families.

Three bandmates walking along a trail, somewhere near a lake near a highway in Illinois. Trees, lush greens and warm browns encompass them. The basement of a book and record store in Davenport, Iowa, crates of records everywhere, the album art lining the walls. All reds and greens and fluorescents, one of my all time favorite color palettes right here. The kitchen in the green room apartment at Cactus Club, in Milwaukee, WI. Two types of red and reddish brown brick cover the walls, and in front, a circular table draped with a white tablecloth, floral patterns smattered on top and gently toppling down the sides. An old, sage green upholstered kitchen chair sits below a window with simplly embroidered white drapes, light shining through. There is a grayish blue rotary phone mounted on the wall, its coiled receiver wire dangling. Part of a lit brass chandelier warms the top left of the photograph. (Haunted, in case that wasn’t abundantly clear.) A thicket of winding grapevine on the leaf strewn earth beneath tall skinny trees. More greens and browns. Dappling of sunlight. The also haunted woods of the Wickliffe Mounds in Kentucky.

It is only male Green Sea Turtles that have huge tails like this. It doesn't develop until they are sexually mature (20+ years old). Until then, it is very difficult to identify their gender. 🦑🐍

Daunted suddenly by the prospect of moving into the open and Sofia's unwelcome scrutiny, Listy stops and waits for the trembling to pass. He isn't far behind. She turns at his footsteps and he brakes under the canopy of trees, sunlight dappling his face. Then, in a few quick strides he's there in front of her and his hands are cupping her face, his mouth coming down in a kiss of such gentle, restrained violence that something wrenches inside her even as her mouth opens irresistibly to his. When he finally lifts his head, his eyes trail over her face, his thumbs stroking her cheekbones. 'There's something about you,' he says gruffly, 'that sometimes makes me want to just grab a hold of you...and shake you.' She laughs unsteadily. 'Efkaristo, but I've had nicer things said to me.'
