Why is it so hard to buy an #ebike via the @SodexoUK_IRE Cycle2Work? @Halfords_uk who run it severely limit the shops available to buy from (i.e. none for the bike wanted!) How is this encouraging sustainable travel? Why can't more local shops be on the scheme? So frustrating! 🚲

This report from @sustrans is really good. It highlights how even the cost of a cheap bike can be out of reach of so many pe WAople. Cycle2work schemes only help the better off. It doesn't help the self employed or those not working. Cycles are enablers

In the case of heat pumps removing subsidy is obviously just bad policy. In the case of cycle2work I do think there’s a fairer argument some of that money is going unnecessarily on expensive sports bikes not usually used for transport - a sensible limit or straight grants might be better.

People hate lime bikes, but I'd rather my life filled with clicks and beeps and have a generation of kids learning and using bikes and then taking that passion to cycle2work schemes and wanting better neighborhoods.
I suspect they'll all crave a BMW x1 or m4 though.

canlt beat #cycle2work scheme, I do cycle to work, just got a voucher for 2500 (sounds a lot but only pay around 1300 of that) and then looking at a DI2 Merida bike, that was 4K worth for 2.3K, so get a top DI2 bike etc for only 1.2-3K

I bought my C line from Evans in late 2023 for about £1000. It worked out cheaper than cycle2work.
I think a lot of the problem stems from production not slowing down quickly enough after COVID.

This Adrian Chiles programme on e-bikes is such bollocks. His main problem is with kids riding illegally powerful bikes, & that you can apparently buy them using the cycle2work scheme (which deducts cost from salary). AC, the kids are not on payroll & they are not sourcing their bikes that way.
