#cusma
Funny, but for some reason we aren't fully committed to CUSMA these days.

I really, really don't want a deal with the US. I'd like to see us walk away from CUSMA, for that matter.

For Canadians and Mexicans, here's a preview of next year's #CUSMA negotiation. By all indications, it's going to be a bare-knuckle brawl on a moving roller coaster. #cdnpoli

7/8 As long as that "unpredictability" exists, businesses will be "hesitant to make major investments."

The next big factor? The #CUSMA renewal in 2026. #Macklem hopes for a "good deal" to unlock investment.

But he warned: "We can’t rule out that that won’t happen.”

Trump feeds on phantom menaces and martyrdom. He has no respect for contracts or alliances, so don't be surprised if he rejects CUSMA entirely if he isn't getting what he wants. Either way, Canada loses. But at least Carney is doing something.

I think this is a good summary.
My overarching comment is that I don’t see this as a generational budget. It’s timid in its spending, & perhaps that’s as a result of the economic times we’re facing, & concern over the possibility Trump walks away from CUSMA

Carney’s budget is a Trump survival plan. Here are the highlights

Exactly. All of these elbows down, punch him in the face and walk away people have no idea what this is like behind the scenes and need to care more about the Cdns depending on CUSMA & the safety of our negotiating team, than about their thoughtless « pride »
November 3, 2025 at 1:45 PM
You want to appear on CBC and tell all the Canadians whose jobs depend on CUSMA renegotiation that you prefer to sacrifice them for some imagined injury to your pride?

They fall under cusma... The tariff line is bullshit.
November 2, 2025 at 5:38 PM
Yes he felt betrayed by his pal. No, it will not inflict damage - at least on Trump. Cult of Reagan was supplanted by cult of Trump. It WILL inflict damage on Canada though through now 45% tariffs on vulnerable sectors and fucking up CUSMA renegotiations.

In an absolutely shocking turn of events, #PhRMA (Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America) believes, in their submission to the #USMCA/#CUSMA trade agreement review, that Canada should be paying more for medicines.

if yes, green light go, Canada applauds. If no, Canada turns its displeasure on the actual cause (Doug Ford & his AmCan bullshit) and understands, like the smart people we are, that ALL that matters is our goal. Maintain CUSMA until we double non-US trade.
November 2, 2025 at 8:30 PM
Canada doesn’t have to adhere to any of the United States other than to live within the confines of the CUSMA. agreement. Other than that it’s zip and they are in COMPLIANCE with

There is a view among some parts of Corp 🇨🇦 that no deal #cusma is not acceptable.

News flash: that’s where we are. And it isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Now we must act to control the things we can.

And so what? The only questions here are - did this advance our goal of doubling non-US trade WHILE keeping CUSMA stable in the interim? ( No, it didn’t) and what was Ford’s goal? It was to backdoor his traitorous Fortress AmCan into Trump’s notice. Why should Cdns suffer just to « hit a nerve »?

Our PM has done nothing but be polite and decent to a man who would otherwise be behind bars for his extensive crimes. Our team has tried in spite of the dismissal of CUSMA, signed and broken in bad faith by the felon. We have moved on for reliable and stable partners. Diaper Don is a disaster.
October 31, 2025 at 3:47 PM
We expect to soothe that famous thin skin and get back on track for CUSMA renegotiation because if that goes bad, no one wants to see what happens to our jobs and businesses. Period. And I for one don’t have too much pride to condemn known conman Ford’s actions and try to save those jobs.
November 1, 2025 at 5:44 PM
because it was not appropriate and not in the spirit of trying to keep CUSMA renegotiation on track. Because the PM knows Ford is trying to backdoor his way into selling Canada out with his AmCan ( if you have not read it, I recommend you do. It makes us a vassal state with deep integration)

The part I understand is that his priority is to get the US team to the CUSMA negotiating table.

But it wasn’t his apology to make.

Carney should have told Trump that provincial Premiers, much like State Governors, have autonomy. And that’s how Ford exercised his free will.

Ummm...if anyone has been rude and dismissive, it's the orange pumpkin he works for and worships. It's the US who hasn't honored the CUSMA agreement.
October 31, 2025 at 9:36 PM
I disagree. There is no deal to be had with the USA on free trade. How many times do we have to hear that they don’t want to use the free trade policy. They have moved to tariff trade policy. If there are changes to CUSMA, it’s not coming from 🇨🇦. It will come from Trumps supporters which ad targets

“With some stability in US tariffs in recent weeks, near-term uncertainty may have come down a little. But the focus is shifting to the upcoming review of CUSMA. New US threats to use tariffs as an instrument of geopolitical pressure are also contributing to global uncertainty.”
October 29, 2025 at 2:36 PM
Guaranteed there is no deal they can sign that he won't tear up the moment he changes his mind. Same way he did with CUSMA. We already had a written deal and look what happened.
October 28, 2025 at 11:25 PM
We're the ones with the big trade deal - CUSMA and that's not up for review until next year despite 47's attempts to mess with it. The rest of what's going on between countries including ours is trying to negotiate tariffs with an extortionist. Oh, and mr dick-pic is a seriously shady propagandist
