The media keeps pushing the lie that fossil fuels are cheaper than renewables. They’re not. CSIRO and AEMO show solar and wind are far cheaper. The fossil fuel lobby funds the lie, and half our grid’s already renewable. The transition’s happening, like it or not.

Why do eagle and manta rays have long, whip-like tails? 🦈 Our study shows that they act like kite tails, adding drag to keep rays stable as they glide!

New CSIRO survey of 900 Tasmanians shows strong love for the coast, but almost 70 percent worry about rapid change. Ocean warming, plastic waste, and biosecurity top the list. Scientists are the most trusted voices, with strong support for restoration work.

Profit is a bloody dirty word.
Universities, CSIRO, Schools, Health, Aged Care, etc, are not products to be 'invested' in.

Australia has world-class resources, but do we turn them into long-term wealth?

Norway used oil to build a $3T sovereign fund. Australia has one too, but ours isn’t built from mining royalties.

Albo not bringing Australian 'vibe' I'd expect from an Aus Labor PM

Most notably AUKUS support, fossils approvals, expose structural inertia for vested economic & foreign policy interests.
No reinvestment in ABC, CSIRO, BOM, etc underscores Labor’s fails to recast after LNP

Or Uggs. CSIRO did some interesting work on heat pumps. As they are high they don’t automatically heat the feet as well as some other units & can suck cold air into a room. Real solution, aim them down, a fan, insulation, seal gaps (door snake) double glazing. I am half way to these no loss measures

Not news to anyone that's paying attention, but pretty amazing figure of what is going on with residential batteries from CSIRO 🔌💡

A little bit of fun trivia ... the old Australian $50 note, also features Murriyang, the CSIRO Parkes radio telescope, and the first pulsar it observed.

You can see The Dish in the centre and the pulses on the left hand side of the note.

I know too many farmers who believe global climate change is a 'greenie/science hoax'.
The only thing I take hope from is younger farmers who are working their arses off to future proof their farms.

We need better messaging from govts while they slash funding to BOM, CSIRO, agri & science teaching

Dump AUKUS.

Spend the money on a wider array of flexible defence materiel.

Spend the saved billions on housing, free K thru Uni education, healthcare, free dental, supporting families, closing the gap, First Nations, childcare, CSIRO, NDIS, ABC, SBS, NACC/ICAC, women & girls, renewables.

And I'm lucky that CSIRO is very encouraging of that - I got to be interviewed on live tv during Mardi Gras about my journey, explicitly supported by my job for that. But I wouldn't've had the guts had I not had others blazing the way before me.

This👇is one of the reasons why gov-funded bodies such as the CSIRO need to do scientific research that is independent of commercial interests -
bc it is in the public (incl economic) interest to find a prevention or cure.

Cures may not be profitable for commercial interests

Having been involved on the recruitment side I would add there’s also a flight on out of academia into gov. Possibly due to a whole bunch of contracts not being renewed like what’s being reported at CSIRO. Lot of PHDs vying for roles even at A05/6 level.

Very challenging time indeed!

For $700 billion we can maybe buy a few submarines we won't be able to use without permission from the USA or we could fund CSIRO for 700 years.
