First, the poem: "Guidelines for Living. In this world, be thoughtful with the ground, the rains and gardens. Even life with a flower family can be evolved. By ZIA." Now, its presentation: a page from Emily Post's Etiquette, 19th Edition, Manners for Today, has been mostly covered over with gray. Using an erase function in Photoshop, the poet erased the gray overlay, revealing selected words. The resulting poem can be read in bits and pieces of erased words, or in full in an inset at the bottom of the page. Further, there's representational art involved, as ZIA used the eraser to leave white dots and added green dogs, and created from those elements a blossoming tree, with petals scattered on the ground all around its trunk.
