I'm starting to suspect our professors are secretly plotting our demise, because the amount of coursework has gone through the roof all of a sudden

Part of Gove’s whole obsession was around kids getting back to “learning by rote,” or some form of it. Coursework levels the playing field by allowing kids who are smart but terrible at exams to compete.
Our education system isn't working.

Natasha Devon breaks down exactly how we got here in tomorrow's episode of Bold Politics with Zack Polanski.

She has chefs, nannies, full service staff and is a billionaire. She could easily just lock in and go to UCLA, take the proper coursework, study, do unpaid internships, fellowships, take all those $2k bar prep courses, get tutoring, and pass. But she chooses not to. That’s why she failed twice.

Welcome to my Year 1 Semester 1 MFA fucking around.
It's short 'cus I had too much coursework to do, but hey, the bar for video game in academia is in hell and this is at least above dirt.

Enjoy the feeling of being trapped on a road trip. It's nice, but you're still trapped.

Where to even start with these grotesque oafs. I sometimes fantasize about sending them all the re-education camps but it’s just undergraduate coursework where they have to shut up and listen.

I'm managing because I don't work at the same time, but r.i.p. my classmates I guess. I have no idea how some people balance both AND hobbies AND family on top of coursework, and tbh I never wanna find out. Homegirl can do one thing only at a time.

New date idea: you do all of my coursework and feed me food and say nice things to me and you buy me gifts and call me pretty and you're totally sincere the entire time because I'm just so cool and worth the effort

so I began looking into furthering my education and making a career change. the programs have either been cut or the coursework is nigh entirely ai, or the career is so rigorous with such little pay it would not offset the debt (physical, financial, spiritual) accrued to pursue it.

I'm pretty sure more than half of my colleagues use AI. My Provost uses it.

I feel our discourse focuses on coursework, not b/c it's the main way AI will affect higher ed, but because that's where friction between AI adopters and resisters is most visible (plus, easy to complain about students).

Assessment:
- Affirmation of exams as default assessment method.
- Reduction of overall exam burden.
- Recognition of AI as threat to coursework validity and rejection of moves to increase coursework.
- Retention of P8 and protection it gives to EBacc subjects (although see related concern below).
