id argue that the trapdoor ones count as control, that's a counterspell type thing, you're not allowed to play, you put something on the field and NOPE its gone

id argue that the trapdoor ones count as control, that's a counterspell type thing, you're not allowed to play, you put something on the field and NOPE its gone

The DM is fully on board and the other players wouldn't be mad at me at all. I'm basically being forced to keep a player from reconnecting with her father (contract I made with a hag). We found him last session but he died. They are about to revivify but im gonna subtle spell counterspell it 😬

In EDH I enjoy conditional counterspells a lot more then just Counterspell and I should run Disdainful Stroke in more decks. MV 4 or more hits a lot of the spells you want to counter.

Aldiirn isn't much in a fight and acts purely as support, using Hypnotic Pattern and Confusion to incapacitate foes and Cutting Words and Counterspell to protect his allies. On his own he has to rely on his cute li'l face getting him out of fights before they start, or he's fucked. #tavqotd

-have to fight the for the same space of like, ward medic or magical crafting, but that's a deeper conversation that probably does have bigger balance considerations and would be outside scope, not that free Counterspell or Shield Block dont, but those going both ways feels more net neutral imo

off the dome I think that Shield Block should just be a universal reaction instead of a feat, and that Counterspell should just say a 'spell in the same tradition' and be a modal use of Dispel Magic as a reaction rather than a feat, because both feel like they should be more open tactical options-
