They found the level of choline—an essential nutrient—was about 8% lower in those with anxiety disorders. The evidence for low choline was especially consistent in the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that helps control thinking, emotions and behavior.

I think because we already hated him in the hilbilly elegy days, people don't recognize his stark change in personality, he really does seem like a nail went through his prefrontal cortex

Areas preferring people or places were functionally connected across frontal, parietal, and temporal cortex, with each system reaching the apex of a unimodal-to-transmodal gradient 8/

Scientific backing for Tolstoy: ...looked the medial prefrontal cortex, they found that optimistic brains were more alike in their patterns of activity, whereas pessimistic brains were all different from one another.

Consistent with this prediction, recent studies have found that the effects of the socioeconomic environment on the cortex are strongest at the sensorimotor pole of the S-A axis in early childhood, the middle of the S-A axis in late childhood, and the association pole of the S-A axis in adolescence.

If the human cortex exhibits hierarchical critical periods of environment-driven plasticity, there should be evidence for temporally shifted windows of heightened environmental sensitivity that progress along the S-A axis with age.

Neuroimaging research has unveiled widespread developmental change in primers, openers, closers, and functional signatures of critical period plasticity in the child and adolescent brain 🧠. When change occurs varies across the cortex and unfolds earlier in sensorimotor than association regions.

Remarkably, recent studies have shown that mechanistic regulators and functional signatures of early critical periods of plasticity in sensory cortices are expressed later in development in the rodent medial prefrontal cortex, suggestive of an adolescent critical period in association cortex!

Animal studies have identified mechanistic regulators (primers, openers, closers) and functional signatures of sensory cortex critical periods—including E/I balance, thalamocortical connectivity, parvalbumin interneuron signaling, synchronous intrinsic activity, SNR, myelin, and perineuronal nets.

No se trata de negacionismo sin más. Hay ya decenas de estudios científicos que confirman que el mal uso de pantallas tanto dentro como fuera de las escuelas afecta a:
- Memoria
- TDAH
- Maduración del Cortex Frontal
- Predispone a adicciones.
- Pérdida de capacidad de lectura y comprensión
- etc.
La normalización del uso de aplicaciones tecnológicas en las aulas sin un debate previo en profundidad ha conllevado que muchas familias se nieguen a su uso.

Apparently when someone reads braille with their hands, it uses their visual cortex. It's an open scientific debate on what exactly is going on there, but I feel like it makes sense to me that it gets encoded spatially regardless of sensory input. I've started dreaming about braille!

CVE-2025-9408 - Userspace privilege escalation vulnerability on Cortex M
System call entry on Cortex M (and possibly R and A, but I think not) has a race which allows very practical privilege escalation for malicious userspace processes.

Large thermally altered flake from Site 8HI473, Hillsborough Co., FL. We recovered very few heat-treated flakes from the site. It appears that people quarrying lithic materials at the site at various times were taking it elsewhere to make finished products. #archaeology
