#ConlangNovember 11: Let's discuss morphosyntactic alignment. How does your language treat the agent and patient of a transitive verb compared to the sole argument of an intransitive verb? Also, what noun cases does your language distinguish?

#ConlangNovember 10: Bittic is an isolating language. The form of the glyphs do not change depending on grammar. Classifiers, simple verbs, and particles are common. Classic Bittic is special in that its grammar resembles Polish Notation. #conlang #conlangs #langsky #conscript

imo conlangs should always serve the narrative. tolkien uses it to display the long history of his world; adams uses it to highlight the nonhumanness of his characters. is not understanding the conlang speakers important to your narrative? then keep it.

#ConlangNovember 10: Is your language more analytic (with few or no affixes and inflections) or synthetic (with many affixes and inflections)?

If analytic, is it isolating? If synthetic, is it more agglutinative or fusional?

I love conlangs that have fun little quirks like that. My dragons' language calls boats "river towers".

#ConlangNovember 8: Since Bittic does not have a phonology, here is are the rules that govern what is a valid glyph. The idea is that every glyph fills out the whole space it occupies, making boundaries between the glyphs clear. #conlang #conlangs #langsky #conscript

#ConlangNovember 9: What allophonic variation is there in your language? Are phonemes realised differently by speakers in different contexts? What about sandhi? Are words ever realised differently depending on the surrounding words?

Outside of edge cases like that one science community in Final Fantasy 10.

But typically Conlangs are not typically used for cryptographic purposes. And it's gotten really irritating that that seems to be Gemini's default assumption.

With all these issues, why hasn't Gemini been scrap yarded?

#ConlangNovember 8: Some people discussed this a bit already, but today's topic is phonotactics. What are the allowable arrangements of phonemes in your conlang? For example, must syllables start with a consonant, or end in a vowel?

#ConlangNovember 7: I haven't decided if the Iridians knew about birds or not, but this might be their best approximation for "feather" using Classic Bittic's current lexicon. #conlang #conlangs #langsky #conscript

My Galacticide universe includes 4 full conlangs, built to reflect the cultures and psychologies of the species that speak them.

Exploring how conlangs (constructed languages) can be used as narrative tools to give depth to fictional societies, and reveal how reveal how characters of that world think, relate, and dream.

#ConlangNovember 7: This week's prompt is 'feather'. Your choice how to interpret. You could give the translation, use it in a sentence in your conlang, or just take it as a starting point for inspiration for something conlang-related to discuss.

#ConlangNovember 6: Glyphs in Classic Bittic are 4x4 grids of binary digits which represents a thing or a concept. These evolved from larger and more literal pictograms that had simplified and shrunk for more information density. #conlang #conlangs #langsky #conscript

i rly do think that if you want to improve as a spec fic writer, the skill you need to focus on is just scene craft. it's not lore or conlangs or magic systems. it's nuts and bolts stuff. rising action - turn - consequences. what does your character want in this scene? and so on.

I have been encouraged by the writing poss, @lysanderish.bsky.social, so here we go!

There are two conlangs in my present body of work, one of which is specific to Witches' Thralls (Karnan Demonic) and another which has been in use since appearing in Trelldain (Camazan, AKA "the ancient tongue")
#ConlangNovember 1: Let's start by introducing your conlang! Is it intended for real-world use, like Esperanto, or part of a fictional setting, like Klingon? If the latter, what setting? Where is it spoken, and who speaks it?

#ConlangNovember 6: Let's talk orthography. This can be either a script used by the speakers, or a transcription you use that doesn't exist in world. If it's phonemic (alphabet, syllabary, etc.), tell us how the characters match with sounds!

Mine is acting up over #conlangs.

I've been doing it like 20 years and I don't feel any better.

#ConlangNovember 5: Let's start delving into the nitty gritty, with phonemics. What are the basic building blocks that make up words, whether sounds, gestures, pheromones or telepathic brainwaves, that are distinguished by speakers of your language?

Some quick catching-up for #ConlangNovember.
Day 1: Bittic is a binary radioglyphic language that was used by a space-fairing people called the Iridians. While the culture is gone, the people left their history in the 1s and 0s of Bittic. #conlang #conlangs #langsky #conscript

That's one way to do it. Creating vocabulary for a priori conlangs always gives me a lot of trouble, which might be part of why I'm doing a posteriori ones this time.

Also, C.S. Lewis has a space trilogy?!

Yes, when I'm basing my conlangs on real-life languages (which is basically always lol), I like to choose at least two, and one of them should be at least a bit different from the other. Both to draw concepts from different languages but also to help create words. When I'm creating a...
