African American Servicemembers in WWII: Fighting on Two Fronts During World War II, the U.S. military followed a strict policy of segregation. Despite the ongoing fight for civil rights at home during an era of racist policies, more than a million African Americans answered their nation's call enlisting in every branch of the military. Although limited to serving primarily in labor and support positions, Black service members regularly faced the horrors of war. In the fall of 1944, the 960th Quartermaster Service Company (QMSC)-composed primarily of African Americans - arrived in Margraten to dig graves at the newly created cemetery. First Lieutenant Jefferson Wiggins of the 960th QMSC recounted the suffering of service members under his command who "cried when they were digging the graves... they were just completely traumatized." President Harry S. Truman finally ordered the US military to desegregate in 1948. However, African Americans' fight for civil rights was far from over.

In Pennsylvania, partisan gerrymandering is forbidden under the Free and Equal Elections Clause of our state constitution. The core test comes from this 2018 PA Supreme Court decision. scholar.google.com/scholar_case...
Consequently, for all of these reasons, and as expressly set forth in our Order of January 22, 2018, we adopt these measures as appropriate in determining whether a congressional redistricting plan violates the Free and Equal Elections Clause of the Pennsylvania Constitution. Therefore, an essential part of such an inquiry is an examination of whether the congressional districts created under a redistricting plan are: composed of compact and contiguous territory; as nearly equal in population as practicable; and which do not divide 817*817 any county, city, incorporated town, borough, township, or ward, except where necessary to ensure equality of population. Order, 1/22/19, at ¶ "Fourth."[72] We recognize that other factors have historically played a role in the drawing of legislative districts, such as the preservation of prior district lines, protection of incumbents, or the maintenance of the political balance which existed after the prior reapportionment. See, e.g., Holt I, 38 A.3d at 1235. However, we view these factors to be wholly subordinate to the neutral criteria of compactness, contiguity, minimization of the division of political subdivisions, and maintenance of population equality among congressional districts. These neutral criteria provide a "floor" of protection for an individual against the dilution of his or her vote in the creation of such districts. When, however, it is demonstrated that, in the creation of congressional districts, these neutral criteria have been subordinated, in whole or in part, to extraneous considerations such as gerrymandering for unfair partisan political advantage, a congressional redistricting plan violates Article I, Section 5 of the Pennsylvania Constitution.

I’ve been rewatching a lot of old Simpsons (like season 3-4 stuff currently) and I haven’t skipped the intro once. The Simpsons theme is genuinely one of the most impressively composed pieces of music ever. Also the fact that there are multiple points in the intro that change each episode is gold.

The fun thing is that the Iliad and the Odyssey have a lot in common with the Aeneid in that all three were fanfiction. The Iliad especially was probably composed with the pedigrees of several Near Eastern aristocratic families in mind - the political context has just been lost to history.
