Just read a paper on honeybees, with around 1 million neurons, bees show abstract numerical reasoning once thought unique to primates. Meaning:
✔️ They can count (up to about 4–5).
✔️ They can even add & subtract, when trained with colour cues!!
#AnimalCognition #Neuroscience #ComparativeCognition
Numerical cognition in honeybees enables addition and subtraction
Honeybees learn to add or subtract one item from a set using color cues and can interpolate operations to a novel number.

Researchers found bonobos had more failed attempts and produced smaller flakes than humans. "Their limitations were both biomechanical and cognitive," Toth explains.
