Je viens de démanteler définitivement mon ordinateur HP compaq nx7400 de presque 20 ans. Qui est finalement HS.

Je l'avais acheté d'occasion, il y a environ 15ans.
Basculé sous Linux, il m'a servi longtemps. 🥲

Released in 1983, the Compaq Portable was the first truly IBM PC-compatible computer. By reverse-engineering IBM’s BIOS, Compaq made a legal clone that could run MS-DOS flawlessly, paving the way for the PC boom. #VintageComputing #Compaq #RetroTech #PCHistory #VintageComputer

fortunately I've learned the items and prices for fry's ads are mostly consistent throughout all the stores. I found the full 8 page black friday 2003 (I think the term black friday wasn't in common use yet) ad insert from the sac bee, and the prices were consistent with the Oregonian's single page.

finally got a power cable for an old Compaq laptop I was given. Opened the disk drive because it was spinning up. And erm. Yep. You guessed it. Fresh Teen Pussy #3

Backed up/imaged the drive from the Compaq just in case (10gb Quantum) and gave the computer a test. It booted up, 96mb RAM, PIII 450 mhz, S3 Savage4 GT 8mb Video, and Win98 (which reports the CPU as PII) Not a bad start.

Yeah, the owner kinda modernized the Compaq so that it now uses SD cards.

What is that module on the right hand side of the Compaq? It looks like some sort of virtual hard drive or something maybe with an OLED display?

The Compaq is what a Gameboy would look like before it became a handheld device.

Despite taking a tumble, this compaq 386 still kinda works. Separate issue is the CMOS battery died so I'll have to replace that and make a diag disk.

Sounds like this will just be a really cool custom 386 machine when I'm done with it.

Computing platforms like this were heavy and barely useable. If you bought it to do word processing, that’s all it did.

In 84 I sold one of the first compaq “portables”.

It weighed more than my 5yo son and it had an orange screen. We called is a trans-lug-able.

We did have Vis-a-calc.

Been a dry spell at the flea market recently - but a family member fished this Compaq tower out of bulk garbage for me. Shame it is missing the drive bays cover door, but looks to be unspoiled and even has FireWire ports.

...security biz don't know shit about computer security. When Compaq bought DEC, the Compaq security folks insisted that all VMS systems run anti-virus software - despite the fact that VMS isn't vulnerable to viruses.

People who learned about computers from Microsoft products are seriously...
