We *do* learn how to take a punch (or even better, dodge one). It’s called the clinch drill or combatives level two. It’s training. With an objective. Led by trained instructors. In an appropriate training environment. Sounds like he just wants psychos hitting dudes to fulfill his erotic fantasies.

I've done Aikido.
It's amazing what happens when that just kicks in.
Had a combatives instructor ask me to demonstrate.
I didn't expect him to come in at "100 miles an hour"
He didn't expect to bounce off the ground while I was twisting his arm.
We each learned (very different) lessons.

You will very rarely see a contact weapon of around walking stick length being used in two hands historically. The idea that they would seems to come from WWII combatives permeating US/Western society during the post-war period.

They run the gamut from professional fighters to dedicated practitioners to, well, scam artists, so they can easily devolve into a whole lot of nonsense. I’m the furthest thing from a competent fighter, though, and my interest goes more towards those who exhibit a desire to actually spread knowledge and understanding while avoiding macho posturing.

When Trump was elected in 2016, I decided to return to martial arts again. It was on & off (esp w Covid shutting the gyms down), but I got in & put in enough time in 3 gyms - got my combatives belt and my blue belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu; & train for over a year & a half in Muaythai & Western boxing.
There is shit that's going to happen that many people aren't prepared to respond in a manner that doesn't grind them down.
I've shouted from the rooftops for a long time now..."Get your mind, body, and emotions ready. It's likely going to hit the fan...hard."
