20. #NIN - Ruiner (Version)
Backtrax record shop, Leicester 1995, I asked Brian what he was playing when I heard this. "NIN" he replied. "Cobblers" said I, then at 2m 25s it kicked off. "There you go" said Brian, "business as usual"... 😂

Does anybody know this band? I saw them live when the record came out, but haven't followed their career since then. They make a kind of traditional folk music with pop melodies and use a variety of instruments.

Reece will bring the Yorkshire moors chill to a character as deep as a reservoir, as sharp as a cobblers knife.
Misery to mirth in three ghostly steps.
To make us hate you
Then journey with you
Cobbled streets of fear to joy
That echo dickens time

Was it a great living? Not really, but it was an adequate one, and secure enough. It was accessible to immigrants and people who had to quit school, and could support a family and get the kids into college. And we don’t have those now.
