I have moved my blogs to my @OpenBSDAms VM, as I need that 1 euro small VM for some tests (spoiler: chatmail server for Delta Chat). The DNS TTL is set to 300 seconds, which is 5 minutes. After more than 30 minutes, some hosts are still connecting to that old record.

There is no single central signal server. Signal uses #aws cloud, next to Google Cloud, Microsoft Cloud and Cloudflare, all under US legislation. If any of these clouds goes down or becomes otherwise problematic, chatting degrades or fails.

The nice part is, if they haven't added support for it by now, it'll be one of the things on my list for ThetaChat's fork of chatmail-core, along with things like pinned messages. Some changes I'd want made need to be done server-side though, which will take much more coordination. 🧵

Basically, even though they say it's compatible with broader email, you have to link DeltaChat to a real email account for that to be remotely true. And now you have to go out of your way to do that since they're onboarding everyone to mandatory-encryption chatmail servers. 🧵

The whole #chatmail thing bugs me, because for one, yeah it's great to try to push encryption, but at the same time, we're only using (decentralized) email now because we've used it for a long time before. It only changes in response to corporate catastrophies, in ways like DKIM and SPF. 🧵

I'm still not sure on the specifics at all. On the ATProto side, records and blobs would be involved, 1 record per pack, but should it be 1 big zip blob or one blob per emoji?
On the chatmail protocol side, how would they be embedded? Current chatmail impls don't really do formatted rich text.
