I cannot resist explaining.

As a young teen, this book was the first death of a fictional character I loved. I was devastated.

Larry Elmore, the cover artist, did a picture of the pivotal moment. It's etched in my mind forever.

Illustration of Imperial Prince Gyoku Kurosawa (玉 黒澤), aka. Jade Scorpion, a major character from my Out of Memory webcomic. He is a man who appears to be in his late twenties or early thirties, with jade-green eyes, dark skin, and wavy white hair that flows past his shoulders. As befitting a man of his rank, his accessories are made out of real gold and gemstones. Gyoku is wearing a deep purple cloak over a black sleeveless top. The cloak extends slightly past his waist and is lined with gold trim. A gold and emerald brooch, crafted in the shape of a scorpion, sits near his left shoulder. His long, black gloves cover most of his arms - the right glove is partially concealed by his cloak. His left glove, which ends just below his deltoid, is decorated by a gold bangle that frames a large, diamond shaped emerald. Gyoku is holding an ornate sword in his left hand. The golden hilt is carved in the shape of a scorpion, and a diamond-shaped emerald is embedded in its center.
