Thoughts: On your journey to learning Causal Inference you can use some nice datasets to figure out how horrible it can all go.

This paper’s been popping as “evidence” that you can’t do real #causalinference w/ obs data. To me it shows you need rigorous pre-specified design (in addition to the willingness to fold when your hypothesis is not possible to answer with the data at hand). #EpiSky, #CausalSky, #AcademicSky

Correlation isn’t causation, as the mantra goes—but statistical noise in correlational data can reveal causal information. When X and Y are causally linked, their noise tends to be asymmetric & this can guide #CausalInference. Check out our 📃👇 doi.org/10.1111/nous... #philsky #philsci #StatsSky #HPS

Thoughts: Maybe our models are too simple to makdle the generalisable claims we want.

He did it before Double Machine Learning

I met with professor Mark van der Laan because I think his work is pretty incredible and it sometimes feels like a secret that only a few people know about, especially in industry.

Super awesome new paper in #MEE describing #causal #detection of shifts in #biodiversity! So many great insights here—a must read for those interested in #causalinference

And love Fig 3! Congrats team! @lsantinieco.bsky.social

Does anyone know of good materials on suppression from #causalinference perspective? Papers about suppression usually say only about predictive power. And I think some of the stuff in McElreath's lectures (esp. lecture 6) suggests adding suppressors would bias stuff? I'm confused

what is your take on the definition of proxy variable?

Is it X = X* + e, .....OR..... X* = X + e ? whereby X is measured/observed, and X* is latent/unobserved , e is noise.

Both observational cohort studies and target trial emulations use observational (non-experimental) data. A target trial can even be nested within an observational cohort study to estimate causal effects while preserving the cohort’s descriptive value. #EpiMethods #CausalInference

No, it's from a #causalinference group.
Hopefully when things slows down a bit, I will join one of @dslc.io' book club. Cool stuff going on there.

A new benchmark shows LLMs struggle with causal inference in real academic text, with the top model reaching only 0.477 F1. Version 2 of the study was posted on 19 Sep 2025. https://getnews.me/large-language-models-struggle-with-real-world-causal-inference/ #causalinference #llm #ai
