The Buggane remains my favourite creature design but for the animation - Knucker. The hat getting knocked off by the upper jaw is perfection. It's sort of funny, but also pretty tragic when you consider that it's because of how much power the creature is exerting over her. Chef's kiss

I'm taking a writing class one night a week through Mpls Public Schools Community Ed. It's really great, but all I eked out this past week was this dark, cynical, absurdist poem.

The most famous story attached to this version of Fionn tells of how one day, while making a pathway in the sea towards Scotland – The Giant's Causeway – Fionn is told that the giant Benandonner (or, in the Manx version, a buggane) is coming to fight him. Knowing he cannot withstand the colossal Benandonner, Fionn asks his wife Oona to help him. She dresses her husband as a baby, and he hides in a cradle; then she makes a batch of griddle-cakes, hiding griddle-irons in some. When Benandonner arrives, Oona tells him Fionn is out but will be back shortly. As Benandonner waits, he tries to intimidate Oona with his immense power, breaking rocks with his little finger. Oona then offers Benandonner a griddle-cake, but when he bites into the iron he chips his teeth. Oona scolds him for being weak (saying her husband eats such cakes easily), and feeds one without an iron to the 'baby', who eats it without trouble.

A figure of Manx folklore, the buggane is a notable shape-shifting creature with burning eyes and glimmering tusks.
[Top Section] Buggane; Region: The Isle of Man [Middle Section] A large, bipedal hairy fae with large white tusks and fiery eyes. Accompanied by descriptive text. A shapeshifting fae from the Isle of Man, its natural form is covered in black hair, tusked, and with eyes that burn like torches. Occasionally said to be called upon by other fae to punish a human's offense. One buggane is said to be why St. Trinian's Church has no roof, as it tore it off every time it was put back until the people gave up. An accidental stowaway, one buggane once whipped up a storm to force the ship ashore. Cannot cross water, nor stand upon hallowed ground.
