🏙️ Populations of species in urban landscapes have declined by 17% since 1970.
Cities cover little of Canada’s land, but their impact reaches far beyond. While some species — like peregrine falcons and raccoons — adapt, others such as the bobolink struggle amid roads, crops and concrete.

It's very infrequent for a Bobolink to visit my area, so when I heard one was seen within 15 mi. from my location, I rushed out see if I could find it. Windy and rainy conditions didn't seem promising, but the sun — and the BOBO eventually made a brief appearance!! 🪶 #lifer #wildbirds #sonyalpha

Perched delicately, a #Bobolink sits quietly, still and watchful, his black and gold feathers catching the sunlight. The entire prairie pauses with him in the warm #Minnesota air.

OTD 40 yrs ago: day 2 of a long weekend on Scilly, and mostly yearticks - started with a Jack Snipe, followed by a Bobolink, near the pottery iirc. Had another look at the AGP then a Yellow-browed Warbler at Carn Warval. Over to Tresco for an ad. male Rustic Bunting and the Bee-eater again…1/

Still a few birds to find on Flores island (Bobolink, 2 Northern Harriers, American Black Duck and some waders), but the island has gradually emptied, the last few days have been very quiet. Now just waiting for new westerly winds 🤞

Good still Saturday. We have been to the bark park to wake the town 😅 All the 🐿️🐿️ came out to play.
21 birds. Thrilled to see the wee Golden-crowned Kinglets return (usually seen in Aug) and the Bobolinks ❤️ Such diversity this morning 😊 Coffee time! ☕️☕️☕️

'Nature' is what we see
The Hill—the Afternoon
Squirrel—Eclipse—the Bumble bee
Nay—Nature is Heaven
Nature is what we hear
The Bobolink—the Sea
Thunder—the Cricket
Nay—Nature is Harmony
Nature is what we know
Yet have no art to say
So impotent Our Wisdom is
To her Simplicity

Bobolink (Female or immature male)
Sunken Meadow SP, Long Island, NY
Not common on Long Island but we can get them during migration. Always in the grasses, not easy to get a clear picture.

It’s been a Red-eyed Vireo Sunday in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. I counted at least 5 in my yard & Merlin also picked up a Cape May Warbler, Warbling Vireo along with a Bobolink! Really appreciate when the birds are so cooperative they fly into the frame! #birds 🪶

Yup. According to the American Bird Conservancy, the US population is in a similar decline.
"...86-percent population loss noted from 1970 to 2014. In general, grassland birds in North America, including the Northern Bobwhite & Bobolink, experienced large population declines in the past 40 years."

As a keen local patch birder, I have become outraged by the song "English Country Garden", a garden which apparently will be visited by a selection of North American birds, including the Bobolink. My tangential birding goal setting methodology is wrecked.
