If it’s autumn, it’s blooming time for forked bluecurls (Trichostema dichotomum), an annual in the mint family that bears unique bluish-purple blooms. It reseeds & I have a nice population in my blueberry patch.
It’s native to eastern North American from Canada to Texas & all of Florida.

I planted two Bee's Bliss sage and two Woolly Bluecurls in my hellstrip out front. One of each died and the other two are thriving.

Thanks! I planted most of that stuff over the course of 1 year. Sadly the Woolly Bluecurls succumb to late season watering and also one of the ground cover penstemon fried as soon as summer hit because it was an Alpine species. Looking forward to seeing how it all looks this year 😀

California native wildflowers called Woolly Bluecurls (Trichostema lanatum). They smell amazing like a Logan berry/Grape mix and are a known native American medicine. Boil the plant, breathe the steam to clear congestion.

that’s always such a tough question bc i love so many lol. i’m FL based and there’s so much more biodiversity here than most people realize. in general, my favorite wildflowers are forked bluecurls (Trichostema dichotomum). but i also really like any plants that are both native and edible! Hbu?
Fellow queer plant nerd here! I'm curious, what's your favorite plant you've seen out on a hike/in nature?

I found an interloping plant in my native plant garden. I didn't recognize it which 99% of the time means it's some invasive bullshit. But this turned out to be the rare 1% instance of a native! This is Forked Bluecurls, Trichostema dichotomum and its tiny flowers are real stunners.

I went nearly "no water" last year...I will up it a bit this year.

I thought one of my Woolly Bluecurls was going to make it...it just up and died in March. It had such a vibrant bloom too

So apparently I found a potentially rare plant, bluecurls. Not sure which species. Definitely needs to be preserved before this area is overcome by cogon grass. I sadly won't be here most likely when they do go to seed. One of the species is a S2 in Mississippi. #NativePlants

Woolly Bluecurls in bloom. Smells like amazing candy and was used by natives to clear their sinuses. Apparently it was boiled and the afflicted party inhaled the steam. #Photography #Photos #Nature #NaturePhotography #Botany #CaliforniaNatives

I picked up:
Forked bluecurls*
Brown eyed susans
Clethra alnifolia, some Ruby Spice, some not marked
Purple flowering raspberry*
Blue stemmed goldenrod
Northern sea oats*
NY ironweed

Asterisked are new to the yard. The others are to fill in or add to new spots. #nativeplants 🌱

So many good things! I've never seen forked bluecurls for sale anywhere.

Have fun planting!

Milkweed is the first jug and forked bluecurls is the third. The soda bottle has a sprinkling of a “honey bee mix” flower seeds a friend gave me. I ran out of jugs.

My area at work
Jacksonville, FL
Heat and cold hardiness zone 9
Alkaline recycled concrete pathway + brackish river

I turned off irrigation when I took it over ;) and have been slowly converting it to native and choice exotics adapted to its conditions.

Forked bluecurls en masse in the Robinson Botanical Garden. Huge bee pollinator. All rocks in our cairns came from other parts of our country or the Canadian Rockies. Being rockless (except for the limestone beneath us), Carole and I always mail home rocks from our trips! And you know we climb!🧗🏽

Has anyone germinated Woolly Bluecurls (Trichostema lanatum) seeds? I had to leave my plants behind when i moved and have purchased seeds, but the process to get them to germinate seems to be about three months. Could i use GA3 to just expedite the cold moist stratification process? #plants 🪴
