#blindworm
Gale should’ve known better than to wander near the mud pools! Many dangerous creatures burble beneath the surface with an appetite for anything~

Phenomenal art by @omegajuicebox.bsky.social again!!

Love how it turned out~

Here's a very young blindworm I saw today. I like these fellas, they look like snakes but they're really legless lizards.

Their scales have a golden brownish copper tone in the sunlight which looks great.

alien mily redesign, big lovable blindworm that feeds off of your brain's electrical impulses

instead of doing the silly Google proverbs thing you could just read Proverbial Ballade by Wendy Cope, which not only contains a lot of made-up proverbs but it's also a Ballade which is one of the most fun (and tricky) rhyme schemes to use in a poem

"Why The Nightingale Sings By Night.
The blindworm was very angry at being thus wronged, and vowed that his faithless ally should be punished. Every night he goes prowling about that he may catch the nightingale on her perch and sting her."

today I wanted to start a reupload of my oldest entries in my Emmergens PnP roleplaying game based worldbuilding sketch books

first of all: the Crevice Blindworm, a nasty drake-like beast living in the mountains of Yamashu

I sketched this 7 years ago ^^

We saw a snake today! Or technically a Blindschleiche, according to google translate it might be called slowworm or blindworm in english?

Slow worm - Legless Lizard

Hurdles and hazards
For lowly legless lizard
Spends much time hiding.

Cunning not helpless
Will leave predator baffled
As tail unhitches.

Losing my mind at how every common name for anguis fragilis in English is so so mean. Slow-worm, blindworm, long-cripple
April 11, 2025 at 10:53 PM
As I love languages, here is the slow worm in other languages:

Latin - Anguis fragilis - fragile snake
German - Blindschleiche - blind lizard
Dutch - Hazelworm - hazel worm
Swedish - Kopparödla - copper lizard
Danish & Norwegian - Stålorm - steel worm

English also uses deaf adder and blindworm

I am super scared of all the native spiders here but I do love jumping spiders and tarantulas (the latter I keep as pets too)
In all my life I've seen a single reptile in the wild here, which was a blindworm... This was like 25 years ago, I still cherish that moment xD

Aquel término describía la piel brillante del reptil durante su desplazamiento sinuoso. Sin embargo, el error se extendió, y también en inglés 🇬🇧 se utiliza la denominación /blindworm/ para referirse hoy a este animal de ojos pequeños.

I was looking up what specific kind of legless lizard this is and for some reason the list of UK names for it is just a pile of random ableist slurs? Why are they like this?
