Notice the larger beak (when compared to a Downy), and the red patch at the back of the head, denoting this is a male. The yellowish mark on the tree, directly opposite the bird's beak also shows just where this bird was pecking.

Happy Tuesday friends! I never expect to see Field Sparrows in the winter--even though they live here year-round. Maybe it's because they're so darn quiet after a very chatty and noisy summer.
