Never too late to say that I had a fantastic time at the @35theca2025.bsky.social conference in gorgeous Zadar a few weeks ago! I met many incredible arachnid enthusiasts, presented about biotremology in a symposium on sensory biology, and was honored to be recognized with 2nd prize for my talk! 🕷️

New #Vibroscape paper out!
My first paper as first author- What a (long) process this was, but I am very happy with the result!

What's new: Vibroscapes change not only in different habitats but even in microhabitats. Complexity going up!🌿

Biotremology: Spider webs are not just a lazy way to capture prey
The funnel-weaving spider Agelenopsis pennsylvanica, tested in urban vs. rural habitats under quiet vs. loud noise treatments, was found to be able to influence information reception in the presence of environmental noise carried through the external sensory surface of its web.

Peggy is a true pioneer in the field of Biotremology and has certainly had a big influence on me and my work! I really enjoyed reading more about her story 🦗〰️
Check out our latest issue to read a Q&A with Peggy Hill, who studies vibrational communication and is Professor Emerita of Biological Science at the University of Tulsa. www.cell.com/current-biol...

More and more, scientists are realizing that all sorts of animals use substrate vibrations for communication, hunting, & predator avoidance. The study of the production, dispersion and reception of mechanical vibrations and their effects on behavior is known as biotremology
