Well now I'm pondering - what is the best Introductory Biostats book out there that folk have had success with. I used to like Whitlock & Schluter, but have come to find it too test-based and not enough thinking-based (to use a term of art?).
False. There is no such thing as an introductory statistics textbook
What intro stats textbook to use?

yeah probably getting a covid booster when I have to teach the next day was not the wisest choice. At least one class is student led discussion and in another I am giving an exam. So I just have to make it through biostats

Last repost: I'll never forget how, about 15 years ago, I walked into my biostats class the morning of Nov. 11 to find the students arguing over whether it was Veteran's Day or Memorial Day. I told them it was Veterans' Day and intoned "The 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month"

Would love some recommendations for biostats texts! Especially biostatistics using R. Feeling a little out of my depth with this, but hoping to find a great resource for self-teaching.

Brilliant breakdown of the fatally flawed study that Senator Ron Johnson and Aaron Siri used as their star witness at a hearing on vaccines. They claimed it shows that vaccines cause chronic conditions in kids.
It doesn’t.
Great analysis and explainer on biostats @jsm2334.bsky.social

i was today years old when i learned that i'm amongst the minority of biostats folks who don't want to see ORs wiped from the face of the earth.
but at least i don't advocate presenting data on the logit scale, cause that would be PURE MADNESS.

I just reposted a starter pack of people in health policy, which has more suggested follows in this field. Also, there's more Vanderbilt affiliated biostats folk on here than I remembered! Also recommend following @spiekerstats.bsky.social, @maxdrohde.bsky.social, @ashleymullan.bsky.social.

Agree with nearly everything here. Censored data is very niche to biostats. I think a) most people could spend a lifetime never encountering it and b) if it was just taught as an unusual glm it's really not a difficult thing once you know the others on this list.

Perhaps you’re right. My biostats class in college was in the early 2000s and it was all about p values but I forget what year we are in now (pandemic effect). I keep imagining we are still in 2010s 😬
