ALDEUS - GLOW OVER BASALT RUINS

This is my most recent project, delving into the world of #DungeonSynth.

It is a journey through a medieval fantasy world in which an unknown technology has taken the place of traditional magic.

“Wind and rain are artisans of this landscape, combing heather into waves and carving basalt into skerries.”

Part 18 of Spiorad Àird nam Murchan: Weather is the peninsula’s sculptor—every gust a chisel, every downpour a brushstroke.

(allow me to quickly put respect on hawaii and alaska 🫡🌋)

this isn't a top tier photo but it shows the columnar basalt formations; the tops of the columns form cobblestones that peek through trails, form natural stairs, and border cliffs. if your mountain isn't made of lava I'm not interested

every time I go into the cascades I walk away an even stronger partisan. sure your state has mountains. maybe taller ones, maybe more ancient. but they're not volcanoes and everyone can tell

Abiqua Falls is one of Oregon's better secrets. This tall cascade off basalt cliffs rewards hikers willing to venture there with a view right out of Iceland.

I'd start with ancient rivers and flood basalt...

*leaps in* Hi hello small cat here for assignment, lemme know if I should open the chaos box with all the other freaks in it

I love igneous rocks because basalt, obsidian and pumice all start as lava and become the different forms of rock depending on how they cool and solidify. Black glass and rock that floats start as the same stuff

While we're looking at Belgian Block, let's address another long-standing myth: that these blocks came to Portland as ballast on ships from Europe. Sadly, no. As early as 1880, almost all of the blocks came from basalt quarries near Ridgefield, WA.

Damn all these photos were taken before I started my geo degree
I was on that shit even before I knew mineral structures 😩

When continents pull apart, there tend to be a lot of volcanoes that erupt basalt. Sometimes, the continents pull all the way apart and a new ocean basin forms. But sometimes, the rift fails, and we're left with a long area with lots of basalt and related rock.

I've been an environmental consultant (hydrogeology and related fields) for over 40 years.

I'm pretty good at hydrogeology.

Pretty good at interpreting stratigraphy.

Know quite a bit about continental flood basalt and volcanic island hydrogeology.

The aqueous geochemistry's not too bad either.

Keep

I think the line is T1 Engineer > Dump Basalt in yard. Not sure if Mox or Petal is spent here until your T1 actually hits.

Assuming UFarm hits T1 Fish, above line only needs to feed once to set up. I like those odds.

The test circuit also features a 44-meter-diameter "low-friction circle," which BYD says is made of 30,000 basalt bricks and allows users to practice drifting.

The 15,300-square-meter circuit is open to the public, with BYD planning to open similar tracks in the cities of Hefei and Shaoxing.

Props to whoever did the songs for Outer Worlds 2. I didn't know a song about irrational numbers could be so damn catchy.

Also the art for this game is just fucking gorgeous. I could stare at the Praetorian sky for hours
