The micrometer on the autocollimator will let you measure any errors so they can be corrected. As a double check, while the camera midrib was still on the fixture plate, I put the camera on a tripod, set up a focus chart at several measured distances, and checked to see if the focus marks . . .

I don’t know if my method is the best one, but I was taught to check and adjust the ground glasses using an autocollimator, a first surface mirror machined to fit at the film plane, and a carefully collimated lens as a master.

It’s been a few weeks since my last update on the ARRI 35 BL 2. Since then, the Mitchell FC Fox Grandeur and VistaVision Butterfly cameras have both gone on to wonderful new homes. ln.run/yL-XS #CinemaGear #arri #cameras

For actual tools, I find white index cards to be the most useful and have them scattered everywhere. Next, a means to view back reflections, like a card with a hole in it is incredibly useful. For finding foci, I use an autocollimator, and I use a shear plate for routine collimation.

Ghetto #autocollimator made out of the junk the neuroscience nerds leave around. Now that I have it working I'll try a lens with a huge focal length.

Apparently, it is easy to mix up "collimator" and "autocollimator" in conversation, until you see how different they are.
