So when I was away in Melbourne during the week at #ASCILITE2024 it appears I won THIS at work! Totally thrilled, surprised and honoured given I am also not an academic staff member these days, which makes it doubly special. #edithcowanuniversity #schoolofbusinessandlaw

Chris is showing a table of projects at UniMelb of AI as a roleplay. Notes Amanda Samson's project using the chatbot as a 'problem teacher' to simulate peer conversations. #ascilite2024

I resonate strongly with Jason's point that the higher ed field often recycles the same ideas over and over! @jasonmlodge.bsky.social #ascilite2024

Love @timbocop.bsky.social comment that it's not about individual AI literacy but collective literacy! #ASCILITE2024

SRL - learning to learn - is not just about the cognitive, it's also about the social and emotional. Educators therefore need to foster SRL skills. Start with explicit teaching and scaffolding, moving towards independence (with GenAI also as an enabler)

Is there a reason this panel is a plug for bluesky? I mean I like it sure, but I don't need a panel telling me why social media is good... #ascilite2024

Jason begins his keynote with a slew of the fear mongering vibes around ed tech over the years... and now says this time (GenAI) is different... hmmm where are we going with this!? @jasonmlodge.bsky.social #ascilite2024

I think final sum up is there is no firm answer, but conversation is going somewhere, even if it's backwards. And dinner parties are hard!

Jason now asks - what's different to "20" years ago when the internet arrived?

Paula: AI has a more participative flavour. e.g. to program something from the bottom up would be unimaginable previously. What happened in labs (carefully programmed) is now out there in the wild

Kate Tregloan (UniMelb) - a group/teamwork lens on assessment design allows for clearly defined roles for students and AI from individual to collaborative tasks. Including #AI use in rubric incentivises students to disclose how they use it
