Starting a movement called ineffective altruism

True happiness is linked to altruism.
True thanksgiving is shared.

Even if dignity and altruism in politics was often false, I preferred it over the current pig-shitting-on-a-golden-toilet hypocrisy.
The former encourages optimism and better citizenship. The latter does not.

I dunno lots of the “barons” did what they did for the sake of legacy. It was a time when reputations weren’t made by consumption so they sort of out did one another in acts of “altruism” of a kind that served their own class.

As opposed to all those people that get into crypto for altruism.

Stark divide in my mentions between people who understand the point I'm making in that thread about moral courage in the face of unambiguous evil and people earnestly explaining to me that human beings are flawed and are not always motivated by pure altruism.

This is just “effective” altruism ala Sam Bankman Fried

In COVID, a mask
Suggested altruism.
Now, an icy hate.

That's certainly true. My (admittedly very biased) point is that I don't agree that there is a significant amount of altruism baked into their decision to breakaway from the rest of the dems on this.

picking power and getting the merchant being like "power... to help people?" is really fun too, early moment of "someone projecting a specific idea of altruism on them that is not what they're actually saying/how they necessarily actually feel"
speaking of immovable wol characterization something i really like is that in the intro cutscene with the merchant brother of choice, all of the options to actually answer why they're becoming an adventurer are self-serving (money, power, glory) or "wouldn't you like to know, weather boy"

They should both be guilliotined and have their entire wealth distributed among the poor. That's the most effective altruism, actually.

Communism assumes altruism over self interest, which stifles innovation and productivity. Private property encourages generosity and effort

Salk's act was altruism. A better example is WWI: the US nationalized Marconi's patents and assigned to GE to ensure unified military communications. This led to the NBC networks monopoly that was later broken up to restore competition. Socialism is an essential part of healthy government.

I’m surprised. All this work you’re doing in you and the altruism of the fund raising stuff.
It’ll come. There’s just no planning for them. X

So, in other words out of loyalty and altruism. Sure sounds like Trump.

Fostering addiction in human minds creates a selfishness feedback loop that prioritizes isolationism and pro-tribal but ultimately anti-social behaviors. It's EGO capture

Every time we attack them, we make it worse. They troll their terror away. The voids in them GROW unless they switch to altruism

No devout self respecting Christian would associate with the likes of tRump. They are living in an illusion of superstitious antinomian entitlement. kwr©

Politic$ & ✞religion have become rackets, not paragons of virtue & altruism. kwr©

personally i think without internet access i would've grown to be a chud either at constant odds with or outright suppressing their altruism

...i would probably also be dead by now, but the point is, phones aren't the problem; the problem is chuds and grifters

Even a shred of historical education shows the right has always been wrong to be bigoted and the left will always win long term, we just have to deal with the interim while everyone's education catches up...

Even selfish people, if they were probably educated, would understand egotistical altruism.

I knew is was about Miss Rachel at "hostile interview with children's"

Honestly, LET them pick THAT fight.
You throw rocks at Miss Rachel, you better be prepared to collapse into a puddle of oil like the dinosaur you are. <checks notes> New York Times

She's got altruism AND wisdom on LOCK.

It would be nice if we were ruled by enlightened philosophers via the orb of altruism, but if you're distributing risk via an insurance system, stakeholders are going to want the costs to them for their choices to be minimized and they will exert pressure to make that happen.

Look I’m willing to say it: maybe James Watson got two things right
November 13, 2025 at 8:25 PM
I don't think that's true. One because that's a narrow definition of shame (guilt and shame aren't the same) and because that's a worldview that leaves out things like altruism.
