Alex Pheby's 'Mordew' is an epic fantasy exploration of Neoplatonism and a wonderful, baroque successor to the works of Mervyn Peake. Beautifully written and unfeasibly thought-provoking.

Guy in the bookshop persuaded me to buy this... didn't take much, he said it was "a bit like Gormenghast".

The book is by @alexpheby and published by @GalleyBeggars -- a pleasure to review interesting and genre-pushing texts from an indie press that took a big (and I think, well rewarded) risk.

A novel I'm extremely excited for btw is MORDEW by @alexpheby and @GalleyBeggars!

I need to go visit this floor soon. @alexpheby are you in Greenwich next week, perhaps?

So thinking about that Write-A-Novel-In-November thing, I get the sense @tobylitt could pull it off. Maybe @alexpheby would get hung up on topography. But I sort of cruelly want to inflict the task, with word minimum, on a critic and then make them write about it. For my benefit.
