Agent-in-editor is much superior; I agree. Agent in CLI helps if I'm driving tasks that won't touch code (debugging infra, comparing remote stuff, etc)

I tried ollama on my 2020 M1 MacBook Pro. It wasn't pleasant.

Laptop sounded like it was trying to launch into the stratosphere!

- Editor: @zed.dev
- Agent: Zed's built-in*
- Model: Claude Sonnet 4.x
- Projects: Ruby, Rails, RSpec, Swift/SwiftUI

*— I really prefer agent-in-editor to agent-in-CLI

i do not understand what is going on with this book. I got two offers last year and pulled out because they were small press and I want a relationship with an agent. an editor who works with big 5 wants to edit it. another editor told me it was her "favorite query and opening" of the revpit contest.

Indeed. Utterly infuriating. IIRC Prescott was political editor at the ST at the time of the Agent Boot fiasco.

What I want to write doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if I don't like the published version of my books, all that matters is I wrote a book that could sell

I want to think an editor/agent could improve my book and make me love it even more. But the fact that I want to love it is a problem.

I'm excited to announce I'm now represented by the wonderful literary agent @mmmlysaght.bsky.social at ACM 🌈🖤✨

We're pitching a queer deep sea horror graphic novel. Hope an editor bites, I can't wait to draw this!

Yeah that's one of my huge complaints.

I'd have moved off it long ago but it remains the publishing industry standard. Every editor, agent, etc I've ever worked with uses it. So I use it.

In case you missed it, I wrote a thing to hopefully help folks not land in the wrong place. Since then, it’s been agent/editor approved more than once. Hah.

Hiring an editor? Ask questions.
Signing an agent? Ask questions.
Signing a publishing contract? Ask questions.

That’s all. Goodnight! 🌙 😴

originality (“SIX OF CROWS on contemporary Wall Street? Yes!”). Hook the agent, & then the agent or editor can figure out the selling comps.

But if you CAN provide decent selling comps, great! One loose metric for sales is # of Amazon reviews:

it just means i should never query, never get an agent, or editor, or get beta readers

because everyone will tell me to make changes and i'll stomp my feet and say "no" and i'm just... defending bad writing and ruining my book

thats my whole point.
November 8, 2025 at 8:46 PM
changes and cuts and shares with pride how much they hate the book they queried because their editor and agent made them change everything and it's better

that's horrifying to me. like, biggest fear, kind of horrifying.

and that's the problem. i like my story. i'm trying not to. it doesn't matter

If you’re waiting for a publisher to help you make your novel everything you ever hoped it would be, it’s time for a reality check. In publishing today, attracting an agent and an editor is a tough business. Making sure your manuscript is highly polished is the best way to break through the slush.

The holiday season is upon us and so I need all the holiday movies that have publishing as any aspect in the story. MC is a writer. Secondary character wants to write a book or be an illustrator or is an editor or agent… please list that movie here.

Couldn’t resist updating this favorite with an elusive white rabbit to celebrate the fluffy tail-end of fall! I have lots of ideas brewing & this time of the year is my fav time to cozy up & dream of making magical kidlit projects with an agent/AD/editor team. #kidlitartpostcard

Hi! This is just the elevator pitch. The answer to your question is revealed in the summary. The editor I hired to help me with this query recommended I use parentheses because of the limited word count for query letters. I trust her since she’s also the assistant to a top lit agent. 😊

As an editor I love delving into the psychology of my authors based on how they title their final submission. Are you a "FINAL_[Manuscript Name]_[date]" person or are you a full on chaos agent?

Finished a client ms today that may very well be my favorite read of the year. (Don't tell my other authors!)

Any agent or editor pals interested in a sci-fi mystery/thriller with timely socioeconomic themes?
