Cookie turns away from the bar in disgust, while Catriona still looks on, giving an angry huff. Lucy is being slapped upside the head by her imaginary visages of Stuckman and his sister. Cookie: “Bah. We have bigger problems than that ass, and his attractive nose.” Lucy: “Yeah! Him and those barrels back there can eat sand!” All: “….” Lucy and Cookie suddenly jump back towards the hotdog statue and sandwich into Catriona with a loud “BONK”. We get a close up of their faces, and they are looking very angry. All: “That bottom feeder! Those are our barrels!” We get a close up of a stack of barrels in the back of the bar.

The three mermaids are peering from behind the big hot dog statue and beholding the site of a building in a clearing down below. The building is Stuckman’s Palace, another merfolk bar. This one is made from the repurposed lower half of a ship, but with extra extensions on the roof that make a similar appearance to a top hat on a face. There is a brass chimney to the side. From inside the bar we can make out a lot of noise and clamour that could be described as, “Public Unrest,” “General Clamour,” “Bite Me,” “Drink Ovaltine,” and other such disruptive vocals. Lucy: “Yeech. It’s coming from Stuckman’s Dive. That creep wouldn’t know civility if it bit his pretty nose in the face.” Cookie: “There’s quite a crowd today.” Cat: “But why? Everyone knows his beer is caca.” Lucy looks very ruefully towards the sky and imagines the visage of Stuckman and his sister. Both are the upper halves of sawtooth shark merfolk. Lucy: “That stupid sexy jerk, and his stupid sexy sister! The minute I lose my inventory they steal my clientele!”

Narrator: “And so, the Saloon Mermaids made inquiry around town about the missing beer. They shook down everyone who looked even a bit suspicious, but no one had answers.” We see various scenes of the women jostling different passerbys. (While Catriona harasses some moss.) Cookie/Cat: “Talk you scum of the earth.” We see a scene of Lucy passing by a weird statue of an anthropomorphic hot dog mascot. There are loud noises coming from behind the mascot. SFX: Howdy! Yeehaw! Reckon! Fiddle Dee Lucy: “Suspicious noises coming from behind a suspicious rock… suspicious.” Lucy calls to Catriona and Cookie. Lucy: “Follow me ladies. I smell rotten fish.”

An cecaelia comes out of the shadows. This is Cookie Darling, the bar’s insane chef. She is a red cecaelia with four tentacles on her bottom, and three in place of her hair. She is screaming irately, and showing off that she has a prominent, bulging, bloodshot eye. Cookie: “Where is that troublemaker?! I shall wring her neck!” Lucy attempts to hold off Cookie’s wrath but to no avail. Cookie speeds past her and starts comically choking Catriona. Lucy: “Wait Cooke, Cat says- Whoa, starting fast today!” Cookie proceeds to exaggeratedly inspect Catriona’s open mouth and pull out various objects of dubious edibility from within. Cookie: “I know they’re in that blackhole you call a stomach!” Cat: “I didn’t do anything yet!”* Lucy restrains Cookie, holding her tentacles down by wrapping her eel fin around them all. Lucy: “Whoa Cookie! It’s too early for this routine!” Cookie: “Then let me get you up to speed! Our alcohol’s gone!” Lucy looks shocked. Lucy: “Wait… what?”

We are introduced to Catriona. She is a yellow Catfish mermaid who wears a green barmaid’s dress and corset, but the corset is on backwards. She wears comically large glasses and has blue hair in two buns behind her. She looks proud at herself. Catriona: “I opened the place all by myself today!” Lucy swims to Catriona and gives her a peck on the cheek while adjusting her bowtie. Lucy: “Good job Catty!” Cat: “It was easy E-S-Y!” Lucy: “E-A-S-Y babe, but you were one letter close.” Lucy then gives Catriona a sly look, while Catriona looks nervous. Lucy: “So… what set Cookie off today?” Cat: “Uhhh, I don’t know…” Lucy: “Let me rephrase that: Did you do something in her kitchen?” Cat: “N-no!” Catriona looks down guiltily. Cat: “… I stole soup yesterday.” Lucy: “Catty…” We see a figure in shadow watching the two mermaids. A grimace is clear on their face. Cat: “B-but she caught me doing it! I’m clean today!” Lucy: “So then what...”

We behold the interior of the Siren Saloon. The back of the ship has been retrofitted into a stage, with large windows shining the golden morning light into the interior. Some of the sunlight reflects off the stage curtains, and the tables closest to it. Several tables have been nailed to the walls of the bar up to the ceiling. Besides these tables is the actual bar area. A cavity in the ship interior which houses various bottles of alcohol and other sorts. The bar faces a counter of coral, which itself faces two lilypad seats. Above the bar is a large ornate shell, decorated with letters that say, “Bar.” Above the bar is a large grate that leads to the upper deck, repurposed by the merfolk into a skylight. Attached to the grate is a lantern that houses a jellyfish. Several of these types of lanterns are scattered about with jellyfish inside. They are meant for lights, but in the morning, they are inactive as even flame lanterns. There is a large mast that has pierced the interior of the vessel, having been repusposed in some ways, but left alone in others. It is growing noticeable amounts of moss on its wood. Shadowed to the front of the vessel is an alcove with a sign below it that reads, “Kitchen.” Narrator: “Lucy Styles’ Siren Saloon. The heart of this town and all of its denizens. Many adventures start and end in this tavern. I personally recommend trying the Damselfish Draught.” Lucy smiles at the sight of her bar. “Aah… I never get tired of this view.” A voice calls to her from offscreen. “Good morning Lucy!” Lucy looks towards the new figure and smiles. We see a bit of the new figure’s fin. “Ah! There’s my favorite gal!”

Our first page properly introducing Lucy Styles as she looks up to her place of establishment, the Siren Saloon. The Saloon is a sunken barge in the middle of the ocean, with an extension in the middle of the ship that acts as a front entrance hall. She is introduced with the title: Lucy Styles. Eel Mermaid. Siren Saloon Owner. Lucy: “Good morning Siren Saloon! You’re looking lovely today!” Suddenly, Lucy is thrown off by the sounds of a large crash coming from the Saloon. A voice is heard from inside the saloon screaming loudly. ?: “Mother of god!! They can’t all be gone!!” Lucy sighs to herself. Lucy: “And the day begins...”

We get a view of an underwater town titled, “The Shiyard: Village of Outcasts”. The town is made up of rustic wooden ships look to have come from various stages of history. Each ship has been repurposed by merfolk into underwater homes and businesses. The clock tower is a repurposed viking vessel, with its dragon head still on the mast, and it has struck the time for six o clock. Sound effect: CLANG CLONG? ?: “Six o’clock and all’s well!” ?: “The clock doesn’t seem to agree. And what clock goes clang clong?” ?: “Shut your face, it’s our only clock!” We see a variety of merfolk starting their day, and gathering in the town square. But we are following the trail of an eel mermaid swimming through the busy streets while the morning sun beams down from above.

But we don’t have a good view of her face. Ava: “Don’t give me exxcusess!!! We have a job to do, and little time to do it!!” ?: “Don’t gotta yell sis…” Ava turns to face the distance. We see a dark grin cross her face. We have a clearer view of her body, and can see she is covered by a dirty brown cloak. She also has a tail similar to that of a snake, with a pointed edge. Ava: “SsSsSs… I’m looking forward to tomorrow … Luccccy….”

We dip below the waves to behold various oceanic wildlife cruising in the warm upper layers of the water. Jellyfish lazily float in a pack. A dolphin, wearing a scarf giddily passes by. While a shark, with a cowboy hat lurks oh so menacingly. Narrator: A green sea, underneath a reddened sky. A new world, bathed in eternal twilight. There is a when, and a why. I don’t care.” We see a seal mermaid, looking upwards at the last sliver of light coming down from the surface above. A Catfish mermaid, with gigantic rimmed glasses, hides her body behind a rock and looks up at the seal mermaid, smiling giddly. By the Catfish’s head, we see two other mermaids off in the distance. One had the body of an moray eel, but wears a buttoned red vest/top. She smiles and waves at the Catfish. To her right is an octopus mermaid (known as a cecaelia) with four tentacles. She is wearing a white cooks’ apron and had a brimmed chef’s hat. In 3 of her tentacles, the cecaelia is choking a sea dragon. We pan down to see two cecaelia. One is blue, lanky, and tall. The other is short, chubby, and red with pink hair. The blue cecaelia is singing, while the red cecaelia plays a sort of lute. Narrator: “It has one name for thousands of parents. Outcasts call it sanctuary, and home. Lords name it, potential, and capital.” A merman in a black cloak glides across the water. He wears a plague doctor’s mask on his face and has a large black hat similar to a vagabond hat. By his side is a perturbed looking little starfish, with little dot eyes and a scowl. To the left is a mysterious procession in a caged naturalistic building, styled similarly to a church. Silhouetted figures watch one cloaked individual whose robes drape extravagantly down towards the crowd. One figure ominously looks towards us with pale orange eyes. Down below are two merpeople of indistinguishable species. They vaguely resemble green frogs with fins. To the left is a tall merman, draped in a dirty brown cape with a tall cowboy hat. To the right is a tiny mermaid. They are surveying an open treasure chest. Narrator: “It’s the land of prologues and epilogues. When I told myself that, I named it Logue. It found me when I was lost, and unmoored. A dream, like the rhythm of of darkened waves. Like an outcast, I feel into its dream. It arrived and departed with a crash.” A large mountain is off into the distance. On its peak it a strange white object of curious sort. It surveys the surrounding underwater shadowy landscape, like a great eye. Closer to the foreground is me, Chico D. Mar, watching the mountain off in the distance. I am a green cecaelia, with a head like an actual squid, and two large rimmed glasses. Below is the title of the story: Wet Frontier.

The board behind the post-it note begins to open a hole. Debris is scattering everywhere, and the note is distorted, as if it is being sucked into the hole by an invisible vortex. ?: “Life’s not great. The pressure piles on. And you just feel outcast.” ?: “It was one of those things that just happens.” The hold has opened very widely now, and the note is being sucked further in. ?: “And it’s moments like that, when dreams become real.” The note has been completely sucked into the newly opened panel. The scene behind the panel is a shot similar to that of the note. A mysterious, purple hued sky gives way to a scarlet sunset off in the distance. The ocean below is a mysterious and clammy green.
