Lovely spot though. That wagonway must be arrow straight for about 750m

Pretty special managing to find a £600k 2 bed ground floor flat in Northumberland. You can't throw a stone in the North of England without hitting an old wagonway.

The bay visible above the shed is the site of a coal loading staithe that was the terminus of Australia's first railway-shaped object. In 1831, the AA Co built a 500m-long gravity-powered cable wagonway laid with cast-iron fishbelly rails, to carry coal from their 'A Pit' to the river at this point.

Went for a ride on the world's oldest carousel. Built in 1779-80, making it 245 years old. Are there any older ridable machines anywhere in the world? A primitive wagonway cart or an ancient lift or something?

From the top I followed the wagonways back to parkhead station and then down the Stanhope and Tyne Railway line

It's part of both Hadrian wall walk and cycleway. Relatively flat, largely old wagonway so segregated from traffic.
Occasionally a mixed bag of surroundings - plenty of urban park bits though, some light industrial around the wagonway, some good bits of history.

e.g. the 6th C BCE #Diolkos wagonway (#Δίολκος, from #Greek διά, ‘across’ and ὁλκός, ‘portage’), used for pushing boats across the #CorinthIsthmus in #Greece, they didn’t really come into their own until the 1800s, and in #Russia not until 1842.

Morning walk to the local harbour. The area was first recorded as am anchorage in 1502 with an official trust opening in 1754. The harbour saw coal, panning salt, tobacco, whisky and gin leave our small town until it finally closed in 1960. #WitchyWalks

Train?

Luxury.

Round my way we have to make do with a wagonway.

Early Mellanoid Slime steam locomotive, a Garratt-like articulated locomotive. It was so successful on the steep and sharply curved wagonway-turned-railroad it was built for that it helped define the look of articulated locos on the planet

The test track was built on the former trackbed of the Seghill wagonway. The southern end of the test track ended at the Coast Road, with the northern section ending in West Allotment.
