#Vocoder
Imagine if Elizabeth Holmes makes a comeback but she goes even harder into supervillainry, she only speaks through a vocoder that pitchshifts her voice down to infrasound, promises a literal doomsday machine.

Just embracing her inner Dr Doom

"Shakawalla" is a catchy pop song that DJ R-3X plays in Oga's, with vocoder elements and impassioned lyrics in an unknown language that sound almost like faith music. It's by Kushmara (listed as "Lady Kushmara" on @holocronkeeper.bsky.social's Star Wars karaoke sheet). youtu.be/ByVxffnSndQ?...

Gary Sloan and Clone - "Harmonitalk" (USA, Electronic) [1980] - Sort of like if Kraftwerk had a rippin' harmonica dude playing through a vocoder

I was watching Bobsheaux's review of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, where he talks about Frank Welker voicing fan-favorite Soundwave, only without the vocoder effect he had in the cartoon.

I tried to give him the vocoder voice while still being intimidating. I hope I succeeded with that.

some jazzers have been griping about Hancock’s vocoder ad-lib segment, which he’s been doing every set. Allow me to set you straight. Herbie Hancock is one of the greatest musicians ever to live and in the context of music if he makes a choice then that is the right choice. Hope this clarifies
just saw Herbie Hancock at the Strathmore. played almost exclusively progressive jazz, went ~1 hour over time, much of the overage stemming from a nearly 40m lecture on evolution, compassion, & futurism done entirely via vocoder, and saved almost all the accessible fusion for post-lecture. the GOAT!

Thanks, I tried three times to figure out the right pitch and robotic quality to give Soundwave. This is the third and final edit.

And now, I am told that at some point, they were GOING to give him the vocoder voice in the film.

Only about 20 minutes worth of vocoder lecture when we saw him last year - this is a positive trend line. Herbie fucking rules.

Just flagging that Herbie Hancock's non-vocoder lectures are also really good: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPFX...

SPRINGFIELD, Ark. -- Convenience store hustle. Smells like pizza and country vocoder.

Forgot to follow up on this—what foolishness to think I wouldn't stay rapt and alert in the presence of absolute greatness. We only got a 20 minute vocoder lecture though. There was keytar! There was fancy footwork! The band was phenomenal!

seeing him for the first time wednesday, can't wait! especially for vocoder, or anything else he chooses to do, he's HERBIE HANCOCK.
November 3, 2025 at 3:17 PM
Herbie Hancock fuckin rules, at least a 3rd of the set I saw him do in Syracuse was just goofing around with that vocoder and it's still at least a top 10 concert of all time I've been to. What a legend.

If ANYONE deserves to have a captive audience for a 40 minute vocoder lecture on evolution, compassion and futurism, it’s Herbie Hancock.

Hell, I’d pay for that piece of performance art alone. (my ear gets tired of prog jazz much faster than my brain gets tired of performance art.)

I’m sure it’s just a short in his vocoder and not that he’s rabidly frothing and beyond words… 🤭

Saw Herbie Hancock last night (with Terence Blanchard!)

Late in the show he did a solo vocoder interlude on the perils of AI and why we need to teach our children (including AI) ethics, or we'll end up living out the Terminator films.
