Unexpected bonus at end of my stay in Visby. Chance to examine the amazing Roman-style Spatha recovered from a warrior grave in Gotland in 2021 with a masterclass in theory of metal working with swordsmithing guru Peter Johnsson. It’s a thing of beauty with elephant ivory guard.

This medieval skull, safeguarded by chain mail, belonged to a warrior who lost his life in fierce Battle of Visby back in 1361 AD. After clash, remains of fallen, along with their weapons and armor, were laid to rest in a communal grave, making the site a remarkable archaeological treasure.

My take: 50K was far enough that distance became meaningless. "This is just life now," was what I was thinking. A very tricky trail with lots of roots, sandy beaches, and loose rocks - but also great views. Finished just before the wind and rain really hit. #ultrarunning #trailrunning #50K #runsky

Polish Navy landing ship ORP Toruń (825) travelled from military port of Gdynia to Visby, Gotland SE today. Stayed Visby port only 2 hours.

Ship is moving anti-ship missile systems to Gotland.

4th similar trip last 10 days. Operation Gotland Sentry.

I november 1944, på resa från Nynäshamn till Visby, sänktes Gotlandsbåten S/S Hansa av en sovjetisk ubåt. Endast två av de 86 passagerare ombord överlevde - en av Sveriges värsta fartygskatastrofer i modern tid.

a blue sky with light clouds over the #BalticSea. Farthest out on the horizon is the cliff called Högklint. Not much of the beach is visible because of all the greenery from this perspective.

Fyrir 8 árum síðan var ég nýflutt til Svíþjóðar og var í skólaferð á Gotlandi (sænsk eyja þar sem er m.a. háskólacampus). Þar sem ég rölti í sakleysi mínu í gegnum miðbæ Visby rak ég augun í skilti sem ég kannaðist við. Mér finnst þetta ennþá ÓGEÐSLEGA fyndið.

Träffade honom o dottern på strandpromenaden, Visby under Medeltidsveckan. Fick en snabb pratstund. Hon var på jakt efter pilar och jag hade några hittat.
