I was doing radio news in April, 2020 when a group of self-described “militia men” barged into the Michigan Capitol armed with military weapons. My newswriter called them “protesters“. I changed it to “vigilantes”. Protestors carry signs; once you pick up a weapon, you’re in a different category.

Ya pusieron a hablar al “gremio de los vigilantes” para el equilibrio informativo. Este gremio dijo que era muy malo para los vigilantes. Debe ser porque en realidad entrevistaron a una representante de los empresarios que explotan a los vigilantes con jornadas de doce horas y sin pagar recargos.

If so-called bond vigilantes really cared about economic responsibility, they would not have been silent during the years of austerity that trashed public health, investment and growth. What they want is a world where governments obey the rules that preserve financial wealth over public well-being.
