An infographic summarizing the four different “method families” by which we can assess values of nature, as outlined in the IPBES Values Assessment. These four families are: (i) nature-based valuation which gathers, measures or analyses information about the properties of nature and its contributions to people; (ii) statement-based valuation which directly asks people to express their values; (iii) behaviour-based valuation which identifies how people value nature by observing their behaviour and practices; and (iv) integrated valuation which brings together various types of values assessed with different information sources.
