#VICEPHEC
Poster session done!

Quite a few people remember my talk from the Durham ViCEPHEC meeting. That surprised me. I didn't think it was that memorable? I guess the authenticity/ lived experience came across fully.

Recommendation of the Chemistry Teaching in Practice group and of course ViCEPHEC. In Nottingham next year, so register and come along!

I wondered which RSC fund the STEM by the Lake project was applying to, and whether doing the same for ViCEPHEC might be worth trying. Slightly flattened after the socialising last week, but perhaps something to explore later in the year?

I was talking with a colleague who thinks that self-funding like this (which I think is quite common for ViCEPHEC) would be completely unthinkable in research. You deserve your overpriced coffee!

We presented two posters, one about the public engagement aspect of our hugely successful @researchireland.ie Discover project (Current Chemistry Investigators) and the other about our training programme for our PhD’s at Trinity #Vicephec25 #SciComm #ChemEd #ChemEPE #ChemSky

Interestingly, I was trying to do the data analysis for Theo's VICEPHEC poster in Excel, but found it quite challenging to get the data analysed. I was going to turn to Python, but I was curious to see if CoPilot would be able to solve my problem in Excel...

I was on the registration desk for most of the conference, and a scary number of people said that this was likely to be their last ViCEPHEC. Shrinking departments, closing departments, and removal of conference/travel funds all mentioned multiple times. A brilliant community in a terrible shadow.

My highlight - seeing the sig. grown community of interested/current PhD students chatting together and smashing their presentations - so diff to my first ViCEPHEC as a PhD newbie in 2020 (and a humbling reminder of just how much I tripped and fell through my PhD in comparison to these experts!)

I promised some #ViCEPHEC / #ViCEPHEC25 people I'd dump a load of this in a folder. It's on an as-is basis. I'll work on curating and making it better later.

Fantastic #VICEPHEC keynotes from Jacqui Robson yesterday, Shane Bergin and especially my colleague Julie Hyde (I am biased!) today. Really interesting stuff ranging from public trust in science to the career impact of GTA programmes.

Really excited to be at #ViCEPHEC at University of Liverpool. Looking forward to all of the great #talks, and also a little obsessed with the adorable little beaker mug in the tote bag!!

I can imagine it playing out really well over a longer conference, too; I hope it goes really well! ViCEPHEC just passed 200 registrations so I think it will be good but also exhausting.

Thanks M - the GRC had substantial influence on MICER design. People like to talk! Hope you’re well and ViCEPHEC goes well.

Future ViCEPHEC workshop where we gather corporate training videos and eviscerate their pedagogical malpractices?
September 8, 2024 at 11:23 AM
Ok I'm going to give things another try here as it seems to have a flurry of activity since I last was here! Great to see so many of you at ViCEPHEC last week, and looking forward to next year in Liverpool!

Looks like it was a great Vicephec from what I could follow on here. Thanks to those for sharing their experiences.
Hope to make it there next year.
