We've heard the labor market is in a "low-hire, low-fire" kind of environment. The "low hire" part seems to be true, the other not so much.

The 2021 tight job market got me out of the underemployment situation I’d been in since graduating in 2012. My income has quadrupled from poverty level to 70th percentile since 2019.
Obviously anecdotal but a lot of people’s incomes are way up! A brief full employment economy was life changing!

Was an independent contractor, video producer, editor and videographer for several years. The ACA was a godsend. My 39 year old son uses it now, already struggling with underemployment and student debt.
This cruel administration is really causing pain and suffering. Generational damage in 10 months.

I would never have survived a year on unemployment/ underemployment in 2024 without the ACA.
Like literally. I have Type 1 diabetes and would have died from lack of ability to afford insulin and insulin pump supplies.
It is vital.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Agreed. I left in 2017 after years of trying to find work and only being able to land part-time. FL refusing to expand Medicaid was a slap in the face to Florida’s underemployment-based economy. FL is a black hole for young people. If you don’t escape early, you’re financially trapped forever.

But we're talking spending power here. Not un/underemployment, etc. Yes, this country sucked (and continues to)! But that's beside the point of "housing and goods cost more proportional to income than they did 60 years ago". So why are you bringing it up?

I think there's an argument that public welfare is a way of shrinking the overhead of commercial profit.
Finance capital leads to the formation of hoards and a mismatch between the supply and demand of labor.
Often, underemployment suits the capitalists just fine.

The low unemployment rate of the 55+ group is impacted by many retiring if laid off or accepting a lower paying or part-time job as they need health benefits. Age bias impacts job searches for older workers and underemployment is hidden. Sad we both begin and end careers with headwinds.
