Three weeks ago, bought myself a nice tweed jacket, second hand (never owned one before) Youngest son(age 17) says, as I put it on, “alright, Dead Poets Society”
Put it on the next day and he follows it up with “captain, my captaIn”
Anyway. I‘m too proud to be angry.

The fabric carries the official Harris Tweed trademark, which means it was fully made in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The fleece was sourced from local sheep; the fibers carded, spun, and dyed in the area; and the fabric handwoven in one of the small shacks by local weavers.

If you care about how things were made, not just how they look, then this connects you to an old craft tradition. Harris Tweed originated in the early 19th century as a home industry when crofters wove cloth by hand for their own use and for local exchange.

One of the draws here is that you can custom order the coat from any one of 24 Harris Tweed fabrics. Fabric is 18oz per square meter, which is beefier than H&M's material. Combined with the fact it's 100% wool, instead of a wool-poly blend, it'll keep you warmer than the H&M coat.

... so the rococo elements look like cheap adornments. Even if all the features were genuinely expensive and artisinally crafted, they're out of place and look tacky because they're not speaking to the architecture of the building.

A lot of large thrift stores (Goodwill, Value Village) in cooler areas are a goldmine of wool overcoats and tweed blazers. My husband’s and dad’s closets are full of Harrison tweed and wool/cashmere overcoats, and I didn’t pay more than $30 for any piece. They’re all gorgeous.
