That's my HF vertical off air for a few days. The UnUn didn't like me using the antenna on 160m when it's not designed for that band. Oops.

I'll pay more attention to which antenna is connected to the transceiver in future 😱

Digital Ocean Inc., joining forces with Harris Corp.'s Dracon Division, has developed a wireless Newton MessagePad that can really take a licking. The Tarpon is based on a MessagePad 120 but adds a built-in wireless LAN transceiver, voice-capable modem and back-lighting. It is encased in a reinforced, waterproof chassis capable of withstanding a 6-foot drop onto concrete, Digital Ocean said. The unit is powered by a custom nickel-metal-hydride battery that provides up to 20 hours of use, according to the company. The wireless LAN transceiver supports communications up to 230.4 Kbps and features two internal antennas stored in the back of the unit. Digital Ocean said the transceiver can be replaced by a wireless Ardis or RAM Mobile Data transceiver or a global position satellite system. Where the MessagePad's serial port normally appears, Tarpon sports a water-resistant port for serial communications and connections to industrial telephone receivers. Serial connections can also be made through contacts on the back of the unit when it is docked in a specially designed charging bay.

A modern miracle, in that this is a cheap, cheerful, and almost certainly non-TAA-compliant device that allows one to hook glass into copper (well, spun glass, used to transmit information using light, Omnissiah bless Corning for the invention of fibre optic cable and big-P Pyrex). That little device is a multimode fiber to Ethernet converter, and the tiny device to the right of THAT is an SFP--a special kind of transceiver that converts light (from glass) to electric pulses (that get sent via copper). You can even get different kinds of SFPs for different kinds of fibre optic cable (some fibre optic cable is designed for very long runs, many kilometers; some is designed for shorter runs; some called "multimode fiber" can be used for higher data rates and different speeds.)

It's always the silliest mistakes, isn't it? I've spent so much time trying to figure out why I wasn't able to receive frames and it turned out I forgot to pull the standby pin low. The weirdest thing was it worked perfectly at 250kbps in listen-only mode.

Day 15: SMUGGLED “A-and you’re sure this is safe…?” T4-81’s transceiver feed crackled — Vis chalked it up to manatic interference from the spell they were using to conceal their bulging gut. “It’s awfully… tight… in here…” “You’ll be fine,” Vis grumbled, placing a hand on their outwardly flat stomach. still able to feel the genetic experiment wriggling inside them despite how well hidden he was. “You’re putting yourself more at risk by moving around…” Vis groaned. Despite being the one who thought of the plan, they regretted it. It was difficult enough to keep their focus on the spell hiding their stomach occupant, let alone do so without looking like they were doing it. They struggled to keep a straight face as they felt T4-81 shifting around to try and get comfortable inside the slimy digestive sack, little whimpers of effort coming through on their comm unit. They would have though it a little cute if it wasn’t causing them gastric distress. Good thing zero-g sickness was common enough that it just looked like they needed a couple anti-nausea pills. “Calling boarding group B for warp-tunnel transport to Rheos. Please board the shuttle now, boarding group B, warp-tunnel shuttle to Rheos, Hadarl system.” Vis struggled to stand, thankful that the ‘hammerspace’ spell a hacker friend of theirs had sent them when they asked for help also kept the weight compressed. As they approached the gate, the attendant stopped them. Shit. “Uh, excuse me?” “Y-yes, what is it?” Vis said, trying to compose themself. They were holding their breath without thinking. Shit. Fuck. Could she tell? Is she gonna call security? Does she recognize me? Does she recognize my voice? Why isn’t she saying anything? “…are you feeling alright?” Was all she said after an uncomfortably long pause. “We offer pills for zero-g sickness if you need them.” “Uh, no, no thank you,” Vis said before hastily scanning their single ticket and rushing down the corridor to the shuttle’s airlock. That was, perhaps, the one advantage to this technique of smuggling someone somewhere: you only needed to pay for one ticket. “We’ll be to our sleeper module soon,” Vis whispered into their transceiver. “I can let you out there.” “Okay,” T4-81 replied, his voice soft and hoarse, barely audible over the interference, “T-thank you, Vis.”

Investigators were interested in data from the Nuvo-5000LP fanless industrial PCs, located in the aft dome and thought to exist within the 'large mass'.

From the report: "an exemplar photograph of the mission computers believed to exist within the compressed mass." Visible are three Neousys Nuvo-5000LP industrial computers, above them is what looks like a radio transceiver. This is all surrounded by wiring and a bunch of other electronic gubbins. A Neousys Nuvo-5000LP fanless industrial computer. The entire top is an extruded aluminium alloy finned heatsink. To the front is a panel with various connectors including VGA, DVI, several USB, several ethernet. There's also a slot for a hot-swappable 2.5" hard disk or solid-state disk. Looks like they are using an RFM69HCTW for communicating with their counting device sensor.

The other one is an ESP8266/ESP12S module, which handles Wi-Fi and probably communications with the mother ship.

Here's some more lore. Thought they're not understood very well in-setting, robots are confirmed to have souls of some kind. It's called an Alto, and it's believed to be a recursive feedback loop that occurs in the Transceiver portion of every robots built-in wifi router.

To this end, newborn bots go to "school" for a 1 year period in which the Jack and Transceiver (and by extension the Alto) is subjected to a barrage of general knowledge. Hundreds of years of training data is streamlined into each robot; most of which will be forgotten- consumed by the Alto
