I'm 68. I hated buying records because they were always warped by the time I got them, and I had to return them, sometimes 4 times, to get one that wasn't. As for turntables: no, not using cheap ones. A Techinics direct drive linear tracking turntable is not cheap. CD's have better sound.
In my years collecting I’ve only gotten one warped record. Are you playing on a cheap crosley turntable or some old and decrepit one? It’s probably turntable wobble. Those pops you hear are dust, and can be cleaned. It’s all about caring for them. I’ve got old records that still sound great.
