#Taskbar
Why do you even ask me this Windows? I've scheduled a time already in settings and you refuse to do it at that time.

Its Dzen2 that I use :)

The thing that I LOVE about Dzen2 is that by default it refreshes every 5 minutes - not taking any resources in the background in the mean time - and when I CLICK on it with mouse - then it refreshes on demand.

I do not know any other 'taskbar' that have that feature.

Here is the Windows 10 version number after the November 2025 ESU Windows Updates:

10.0.19045.6575

To see this, run winver.

Open a Command Prompt, PowerShell window, or Terminal window, or hit the Windows Key and R, or type into the taskbar search window […]

An ipad wouldn't have the taskbar at the bottom, though. Pretty sure it's a mac

My workplace has MSN taskbar news shit that just spams you in the morning, and it's the kind of news you scoff at and then feel bad about the one time it was actually truthful because every article is "12 people you didn't know were monsters" and it starts with "she owed parking tickets"-

Co/pilot keeps pinning itself to my work computer taskbar and I don't have admin privileges to make it stop 🚬

I'm watching him break apart the taskbar and just move parts of it all over the screen, remove window orders, resize things that don't want to be resized, install widgets and theme things- it's fucking sorcery. And he's a n00b.

Tried using QtQuick. Now I know why the taskbar in Windows 11 uses ReactJS

Iconbar, dock, & taskbar all are different tools that work in different ways. They're all good. I'm not diminishing any of them. But the differences matter, especially when you compare the timeline of development.

The taskbar was nearly 10Y after Arthur & the NeXTstep beta, & was informed by them.

Win98 added the "quick launch" bar, polluting the conceptual purity - but it was handy!

Only after OS X popularised the Dock as a launcher did Vista let the user pin icons to the taskbar as launchers for things that weren't running yet. Then the function changed.

But RISC OS didn't do that either.

Win95's taskbar does neither. It shows *windows* & in the main area shows *nothing else.* It didn't show the app name unless the app does itself. There's no button for the abstruse notion of "an open app".

This is a very important conceptual difference that the "but RISC OS" folks are missing.

starting to run into issues when it comes to the features one's used to having by default like a notification center (dealt with that easily at first but none of the solutions were perfect, so I changed my entire taskbar) and a clipboard manager (can't get image support working on any of them :/)
ever since this ive started using hyprland a lot more (i was primarily using KDE before) and it's been a real nice experience, took a while to get used to it at first but after a week or so, KDE now feels a bit off but I can't put my finger on why...
Hit 100 days of Linux yesterday, I was planning to have a thing ready for that day but life got in the way, I'll try my best to make it happen soon!

For years, I've not had a Windows PC without Voidtools' Everything pinned as the first program on my taskbar, so that pressing Win+1 always opens up an actual functional and efficient search.

Am I odd for turning off the transparency on my taskbar/windows? Older versions of Windows peaked with their transparency theme and I just don't find it as appealing on Windows so I turned it off. :p

As someone who routinely switches between Linux, MacOS and Windows, the fact that Win11 removed a feature to put taskbar at the top hurts a lot.

firefox is adding barebones PWA support for "taskbar tabs" (just call it a PWA!) and it's windows only

The new Office update on my work PC completely killed my jumplists because the taskbar icons are new ones …

I hate Microsoft so fucking much

"use linux", they say, "you can customize anything to make it just like windows"

"oh neat I would like have the same taskbar mirrored across both my monitors"

"oh, you can't do that. why would you want to do that. nobody should ever need or want that so you can't do that"

This is too funny. I had one notification which showed as a red 1 in the taskbar (NOT systray) icon. I finally dismissed it, and suddenly the online status in the systray icon showed up.

??? Why, Microsoft???
