My #dermestid colony stripped a pack of chicken legs in just 24 hours! They even stripped the marrow of the bone. Think they are ready for the upcoming scavenging tasks I'll be assigning them in my #taphonomy research 👍

Fossilisation ecology – a more complete concept of taphonomy
Taphonomy, a subdiscipline of paleontology, is generally concerned with everything that happens from the death of an organism through to the discovery of its fossil. Here we propose the concept of fos...

Varying amounts of chaos in this afternoon’s lab while playing @rowanmartindale.bsky.social Taphonomy: Dead and Fossilized board game. It’s a bit of a learning curve but super fun and cutthroat once students get the hang of it. Also, environmental catastrophes are hilarious to hear unfold.

That is atleast the prerequisite for monetary compensation for that kind of taphonomy

Preserved in siderite concretions associated with an estuarine fauna in the Mazon Creek region, Tullys shared the coal swamp waterways with a variety of fish and stem tetrapods. Despite extraordinary preservation, their own identity is contentious, and taphonomy hasn't really resolved the question.

🧪🦣🏺 Interesting, wondering if applicable to the Altamura #Neanderthal, and also if taphonomy of concretions matters, e.g. an exposed body covered in calcite vs. one gaining concretions within sediment
