Oh, no question. If that’s what the artist wanted all along, then absolutely. I’m just saying that, hey, before you ditch your artistic vision of needing a violinist, a clean singer, someone who can play the tambourine, whatever; it’s surely easier today with everything patched together on a PC.

Blow the horn, tap the tambourine.
Close the gap of the dark years in between.
You and me, Cassidy.

At the end of every year I’m reminded of the things I own and didn’t use: a new yoga mat and block; a Swiss floor roller massager; a polka dot swimsuit; a melodica; a mandolin; a tambourine; a build-your-own synth kit. And those pretty, shiny dresses I keep for all tomorrow’s parties.

My general theory of Bob is that people are right to love those songs, but the music is doing more of the heavy lifting than we tend to recognize. "Mr Tambourine Man" is a nice lyric but it's basically nonsense, without the melody it would be intriguing but forgettable.

Right in the very first line, "Hey Mr Tambourine Man." The phrase comes to rest on the word "Man", which is an A on top of a C chord. Not a chord tone! On the line "there is no place I'm going to", the resolved-feeling melody notes are C and A over a Bb chord. Also not chord tones!

I learned "Mr Tambourine Man" because I want to use it in class next semester as my example of a I-IV-V song and, like all Dylan songs, it is much more musically interesting than you would think.

You can create a tambourine with paper plates. This instrument is part of the family of percussion instruments. It is a fun project that integrates visual art and music. #tambourine #music animaplates.com/proj...

*Phew* I haven't read something like this since the last time I read an 18th/19th century European music history/theory treatise.

JK--this is a pretty common sentiment at this (and other) online music theory forums and I come across this daily.
