TB Ed Talk: LIBRE-Post TB: A Pilot Intervention for Post-TB Lung Disease from Dr. Carole Mitnick
Dr. Carole Mitnick will introduce the phenomenon of post-TB lung disease (PTLD), which may affect up to 60% of people who are cured of TB. She will also discuss a pilot intervention for PTLD developed by Socios En Salud (PIH in Peru) to help people with respiratory symptoms after TB. And she will re

Ok, I've learned something new - acid fast stains bind nucleic acids and not mycolic acid on mycobacterial cell wall. The lipid-rich cell wall simply prevents acid-alcohol decolourisation, hence acid -fast.

why is cavitary pulmonary TB dz thought to have a higher risk of transmission than noncavitary dz?
- tendency toward ↑ bacillary (bacterial) load in cavity
- tendency toward sputum smear positivity
- higher risk of relapse & treatment failure
