Aparentemente o Sysadmin da repartição Byska "se é que tem um" tá usando o servidor pra minerar litecoin

I guess I ended up more as a back-end administrator and engineer than I did for the front-end. I’ve heard a few folks say I’m less of a sysadmin/DevOps specialist but a Systems/Platform engineer. 🤷‍♂️

Question for people who know about computers than me:

Attached is a screenshot of zenith (a TUI app for showing a graphical system monitoring dashboard) running on my laptop.

In the table at the bottom, what is "VIRT" likely to be referring to, and how […]

This is worse than the time we found 10 y.o. son working as a volunteer sysadmin on a Garry's Mod server under the handle, "Boinkmaster."

Master Active Directory delegation
→ Create an OU for a team
→ Delegate rights to reset passwords and unlock accounts
→ Document the delegation process
You’re learning how to give control without losing it the first step to being a sysadmin, not just a user admin.

🧠 Technical note: Admins can check exposure fast.

💻 Try:
HDB info | grep "version"
dbversion -v
sappfpar version

If your build predates the patched release—you’re still vulnerable.

How do you feel about customer IT departments that demand software to be signed with certs that are not expired, even though the cert was valid at the time of signing the software (which is also proven by timestamp)?

Okay. So. My version of this. I'm a middle aged bald bearded sysadmin. I like anime and comics and science fiction and gaming. I own a steam deck and VR gear.

At some point I had to just say "welp, stereotypes come to be somehow" and remind myself that there are also ways I don't lean into that 1/2
I was fourteen and started getting really fucking into Broadway cast albums and I remember taking maybe a day to say "Do I really want to be YET ANOTHER gay dude who loves musical theater?"

And then I decided "well, that's what I am, so fuck it" and it was the best decision I ever made

no we do have a wide range of classes here, in terms of cs. though its just the typicals like learning different languages like java, c#, C++ and assembly, IT and sysadmin stuff and...computer literacy classes

So what you're saying is I just need to hang on for a couple of years then I can pick up a sysadmin job based on knowing what an ethernet cable is?
November 10, 2025 at 10:19 PM
Note to self: I may only be a home office sysadmin but I probably know more than anyone relying on AI. At the very least, I know where to find and read documentation.

Career change coming my way?

God I kinda hope not.
i know a lotta sysadmins around my age, in their 50s

they're choosing to retire rather than get a new job herding slop

let's say there's gonna be a *ton* of opportunities in sysadmin/devops in a couple of years, as it becomes harder to find people who know what the fuck they're doing

oh i didn't mean it as an excuse, i meant that highlighting this little fact kind of puts an immediate damper on his whole parade lol. the lowly unix sysadmin in my experience is less well informed than the average joe sixpack on plenty (most?) of topics
November 10, 2025 at 8:51 PM
i hate to be a prick but from what i understand this guy is just like a sysadmin, a certified unix guy, not an actual software engineer. and so his opinions on the subject do not matter at all as far as i am concerned lol

"i'm a cop so i can do whatever i want to you" is way less advanced than "i'm a sysadmin so i can do whatever i want to you". power is like an onion

Doing sysadmin work for an office that is running Win11 terminals and the server is running WinServer2022.
Means I am basically switching between the Win10 and Win11 interfaces all the time.
Whoever came up with the Win11 facelift should be brought up on charges.
