The characters are a combination of Canadian aboriginal syllabics, math symbols, letterlikes, and arrows.

The "standard galactic alphabet" minecraft uses doesn't have actual unicode characters, they just replace a-z with other symbols.

I love when poets focus on syllabics, my favorite poem written in syllabics is "Mourn" by Frank Bidart which uses a 3 syllable line.
