When parsing JSON, int gets parsed to a float. Which probably makes sense.

Yes, but as so much IoT infrastructure relies on it the switchoff isn't happening fast.
I have suggested swapping out the terrestrial 2G networks for a LEO satellite service that produces a single virtual 2G channel over the UK for these devices to work with, but it's got a few technical challenges.

With no brands of their own, come FM switchoff, they will have no real radio business. Global don't need them once FM is gone. Given that their entire radio business must surely be in managed decline. So it's obvious. Cut costs, and take the money whilst it's there.
